Before I answer, I am a Christian and I want to make it clear that I am Not prejudiced against Catholics. Catholicism and Christianity are NOT the same thing. Christians were fed to the lions by the Romans. Where is the capitol of the Catholic religion? Vatican City. Where is Vatican City? ROME, ITALY!!! Catholics elevate the Virgin Mary to the position of someone to be worshipped. Christians believe Mary to be the mother of Jesus Christ nothing more. She was a great woman, but also a sinner just like us and not to be put in an equal position with God. Catholics have many rites and sacraments and they believe that your works and leading a good life is what gets you to Heaven. Christians believe that once you accept Jesus Christ into your heart, acknowledge the fact that your a sinner and need the salvation He provided by dying on the Cross, and ask him to be your Saviour, you are saved and can never lose your salvation. Christians dont believe in confessing your sins to a priest, we believe your sins can be forgiven by going directly to God in prayer and asking his forgiveness. Catholicism and Christianity are very similar in some aspects, this is true, but at the same time very different. The most outstanding difference is this: Catholicism puts the power of salvation in the individuals hands, making them responsible for EARNING their salvation, Christianity makes ACCEPTING the gift of salvation your only necessary action, as well as your only hope of getting into Heaven.

First and foremost, catholasism is a romanized version of christianity and it always will be. Secondly, the catholics pray to dead people and ask the dead people to ask God to do things. The Ten Commandments say that we cannot bow to anyone but God. Thirdly, according to the catholics, after you die, some people go to "pergatory" and after some tests, go to heaven or hell. What actually happens is that we are born on earth which is a kind of pergatory of sorts. We must accept what Jesus did for us as well as accept God's forgiveness and try to become like Christ, or we turn our backs on our one and only Creator. This was prophicied in the bible that there would rise up a false religion that would be so similar to the truth that it would not be able to be refuted for many generations. If you read the bible and put many of the practices up against it, you will be able to decipher whichis the true and real faith and which is the imitation. Having said that, I beleive you have your answer. There are differences that may seem small at first, but are in fact major.

Christians and Catholics have dramatically different beliefs.
Christians pray to the Lord, through Jesus. "No one can come to the Father, but by me". Catholics pray to Saints (dead people). Why use a middle man when I can go to the source directly?
Catholics have icons and portraits representing images of Christ all over the santuary and above the altar is a crucifix with a man hanging off it. The bible states that there are to be no graven images of the Father or Christ. Christians have crosses only or a symbol of a fish. BINGO, its gambling. In the church!!! At the age of 7, Jesus threw all the money changers (gamblers) out of the temple.

Christians try to live faithful to biblical laws. Catholics, not so much.

Catholicism, sweetie.

And there really isn't that much of a difference besides the fact that Catholics are much more traditional.

My personal opinion is that Catholics spend more time on helping those in need and progressing their own faith, while Christians want to make their churches in shopping centers and recruit as many people as possible.

Christianity represents every person from all nations who are born of God through their Lord Christ Jesus.

Catholicism is the name of a Christian Church or Christian denomination. In all Christian Churches there is the Salvation Foundation. The different Christian denominations have some additional made made rules. And some have false doctrines in them. Christian Churches have different names. Read Revelations to the 7 churches.

Churches that say Salvation (everlasting life) is by works & not by the grace of God are not Christian churches or denominations. The wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life, through faith (believing in ones heart).

Some Christians don't consider Trinity. They are the Unitarians. Most Christians do not endorse Saints while Catholics canonize them. As long as they believe in Christ, they Christians but not necessarily Catholics.

It's Catholicism, and I think you meant to ask what is the difference between Catholics and Protestants since Catholics are Christians.

As a matter of fact Catholics were the first Christians.

catholicism is a sort of backward form of christianity. They have several practices that I have no clue where they came from but aren't in the bible(praying to saints- The bible says you may boldly talk to your father directly, confession, lent-fasting is good but it should be a personal thing between you and God, Good deeds don't get you into heavan, the grace of God will) other than that they are christians.

It's the same thing. All Catholics are Christians.

It's apparent that people don't realize that Christianity encompasses many different denominations, including Catholicism.

I can't believe the ignorance on this site, that people actually think that Christians are all the same group of people with the same beliefs and values.
