Recipe for cheap (and potent) wine.....
One gallon glass jug
One balloon large enough to stretch the opening over the mouth of the glass jug.
Sugar (about a pound if I remember right)
Yeast (one cake)
Welch's grape juice, frozen or bottled (or may use apple juice, etc)
....................now............
Place juice, sugar, and yeast in glass jug.
Mix well, using something long that will fit in jug, or you can mix it in a big pot and pour it in the jug using a funnel.
Stretch mouth end of balloon over mouth of jug.
Balloon will slowly start filling up with gas, so check it everyday, and bleed off enough gas that the balloon doesnt pop.
Once the balloon stops rising (a few days), the wine is ready for straining.
Strain through cheesecloth or other cloth into smaller bottles or another jug.
Wine is ready to taste.....if it's too sweet, you used too much sugar. If it's too dry, you used too little sugar.
Then, cork it or cap it, and age it a few weeks and enjoy.
My mother (when she was alive) showed me how to make wine this way, and we made several different kinds including my fave...peach wine.

I agree with opjames except on one thing, before you put the balloon over the bottle top poke a hole in it with a pin, as it expands the hold with open to allow out the CO2 without letting in Oxygen that will oxidize the wine and turn it brown. when it stops producing gases the hole will shrink adn close off again.
