Forgiveness does not come naturally to the human side of us, that's why it's so important. In many cases, forgiveness is the exact opposite of what we want to do, like when someone we love betrays us, or when someone harms our family. We are supposed to love our enemies and forgive them, which is one of the hardest things we as Christians are called to do.

It doesn't come naturally - at least it doesn't for me.

It is natural to hold a grudge - mostly because it's hard to forget when someone has wronged us. Sometimes we say we forgive, yet we still bring back that wrongful deed the next time we fight or get in an argument.

It is also very hard to forgive someone when they do not know or realize that they have wronged you. It's easier to forgive someone who apologizes to you - and immensly harder to forgive someone who will probably never apologize.

I also find it very hard to forgive myself.

Forgiveness is hard. It is hard to let go of the anger and hurt feelings. Sometimes I find that I need to pray for the courage to forgive people who have wronged me.

Unfortunately, for humans forgiveness does not come naturally. It must be requested by the wrong doer. If forgiveness did come naturally we would all be more deserving of God,s love and forgiveness. As for God, you must ask for forgiveness also so that he understands that we are truly sorry for what we did against him. I am sure that you must ask in the name of the Son, Jesus, and you will be forgiven. As for humans, everything is not always forgiven and forgiveness is seldom asked for.

Depends on what you mean by "naturally". If you are talking about the nature with which God created us, and which we were intended to advance in, then of course it does. But if you are referring to our present "nature", which is a fallen nature subject to corruption, sin and death, and which has allowed the mortal sickness of egoism and the passions to infect it - then the answer is "no". Forgiveness does not come "naturally" to that fallen nature in which the passions rule over the intellect, and in which our vision of the divine is obscured.

So, which is it? The original nature, which Christ restored through His Incarnation? Or the fallen nature, which we now exist in and which we are called to overcome in Christ?

Forgiveness just doesn't come with the territory. You have to be convicted in your heart enough to realize what you did was wrong and then you have to come to the realization that you need to be "washed clean" of the wrong you did and make it right. So you ask the Lord to forgive you of the wrong doing and he wipes it off of your slate and forgets it even happened. He just wants us to come to the mind set that what we did was wrong and we need to fix it and show Him that we know we failed. Once we humble ourselves and turn to Him, He forgets.

Forgiveness comes to one with a repentant heart who asks God for it.

No it is learned! If we forgave naturally, there wouldn't be a need for good and evil, heaven and hell! We would be like God then! Perfect!!
