It was agreed upon during the early 1600's in a consortium of egg sellers and chicken artisans had a fight about the number of eggs that should be in a one sheckel basket. The king declared that the basket should contain no less than 12 eggs if they were less than .03 hectares in circumfrence.

It was an accident in the factory there was suppose to only be ten but the machines made 12 littles craddles instead and after cases and cases were already made up they the company who founded this idea stuck with it.

12 was the standard number for pckgig because it works out with the most factors when doing simple math, same as twelve inches in a foot, twelve bottles in a pack of beer, twelve buns in a package, etc.
