We have people born and raised here in the United States that can't speak proper English! Why don't you try and learn a foreign language, moron! It wouldn't kill you to learn a new skill. Besides, let's be real. We're ALL immigrants in one form or another. This land was originally inhabited by the Native Americans. So quit being a hater and make a new friend, why don't you?

They do but its about economics. If you don't wish to learn another language then don't do so,but unfortunately nowadays that might cause you not be paid a bit more if you did speak another language, mainly spanish. That's also why most of the signs and other things are in spanish,I believe if the majority of people in the US spoke Chinese or some other language you would see the majority of signs in that language. The businesses are just catering to what the majority of the population speaks because no matter what the citizen status of that person is their money is still green.

I remember sitting in the DMV waiting to take my drivers test on saturday morning. I was listening to a tester ask someone how they could receive a drivers license if they couldnt speak the language. He asked them, if the sign said dead end, would he keep driving. Of course you have to speak English. Go to any poll on the internet, the results are always 95 to 1% in favor of this, but somehow its still an issue. I have lived in Italy, Germany and the US, and you know what, i learned italian and german before i moved there. If i can do it, so can everyone else.

I think this will not be a major issue at all whether you learned it or not. Because your next generation will have to learn English. I promise you on that one.

Learning English or not is based on your need. It is just a tool (remember it), If you don't need it you don't have to use it. However, next generation will automatically learn the language.

Don't get me wrong, I encourage people that they should at least learn more than one language, for example your mother tongue language and the official language.

Multilingual capability is one of the gifts from your brain. Use it and don't waste it. In fact, I see this as the future of advanced civilization.

Encourage your kids to learn more than one language, it will help to stimulate the neurons to grow more axons or dendrites.

Its hard to be open-minded about this topic, butttt....

English IS the language of the United States. I don't see why it is being required that so many people need to learn other languages to suite the needs of immigrants. We are told to think of the broad spectrum, and that they just speak their natural tongue, but when they are the ones who moved here in the first place, its hard to actually see it from their point of view.

i agree,if they are going to live here they should speak the language.i don't think it's right that the dmv has driving tests in other languages. road signs are in english.everyone should be able to speak the basics at least.they are coming to a country that is not their own so they should assimilate to the customs and language. don't get me wrong they shouldn't abandon their customs but they should be realistic and not expect,or demand, that we should make the accommodations for them.
