When I had one I was advised to wash the area in the salty water and then seek dental advice asap - in my case it was my wisdom teeth causing problems. Also I was allowed to take pain killers till I saw the dentist. It was a dentist that advised me btw - just not mine.

The methods i've used, at times, have about 3 styles. One, is after numbing the site, pressing with a fingertip, not the nail, on the swelled portion. it'll cause the puss to drain from the spot, and buy you some time to get into a dentist.
The second method, is the ER, where they can use a needle, or syrenge, to drain it.
The last method, and this is more for the gutsy ones, is check the tooth itself, see if it's fractured. removing a fractured piece, and then washing your mouth out with either a salt water rinse, or, scope, will wash out the hole, and hopefully, slow down the irritation. However, I'd reccomend a dentist more than anything, so the infection doesn't spread,.

You need to see a dentist so you can get on some antibiotics, mouth abscess means you have an infection, and left untreated it could become life threatening.

See your dentist for abscesses. You may need antibiotics.
If you mean mouth ULCERS: try 1/2 to 1/2 mixture of benedryl and maalox. swish and spit. works like a charm.
also change your tooth brush as soon as it goes away. Then change your tooth brush once a month and you will hardly ever get them again.
