My neighbor has 2 mean "pit bull dogs", and they are forever getting loose. They roam the neighbor-hood and are aggressive to me and other neighbors. The dogs owner is a jerk, and his wife is a twitt, when it comes to asking them to do something about the dogs. Police say shoot it if it comes on my property, if they become aggressive. Agressive how, torn leg or limb, is that aggressive enough? What would you do?? Help?

IF the dogs are pit bulls and IF they are aggressive you and all of the people in your neighborhood are in danger. They have a powerful crushing force when they bite and nearly always will sever an artery so their victims bleed to death. A policewoman was found dead in a driveway where she bled to death after shooting a pit bull which was laying next to her.

Call animal control repeatedly when the dogs are out. Take photos so you have proof they were on your property or one of the other neighors. Do not approach the dogs they have a way of moving around until you are in the middle and they can attack your blind side.
Putting out anti freeze will kill them but it may get some other animals as well so do that with caution.

I am reasonably certain your area has an ordinance that requires all animals to stay on the owners property. The law is on your side....use it.

Call, animal control not the police, animal control will come take the dogs to the pound or at least ticket the owner....and they usually get a fine but the fines can eventually get up to $500 per charge and confiscation of the animals.
Its a shame that Pit Bull get the reputations they get because of the way the owners bring them up, I have had several and they have always been great dogs, good around kids, and very protective of the household in general..AND, they can be trained just like any other dog and I've never had one that I had to worry was just going to jump on someone (unless they was trying to harm me of course)

I believe you are not telling the truth. The police would do more than tell you to shoot the dogs. They would investigate and/or call animal control. I also believe you don`t know for sure what kind of dogs they are, if there are any. Asking for help here is going to get you into trouble. Are you so helpless that you can`t make an adult decision?
New info. You are an unhappy person. You drink vodka because of marital problems, you complain because young people play loud music in their cars. What else? You said these things in other questions so be honest and admit you live a life of trying to cancel the loneliness that is eating you up. You want to be noticed and you`re trying any means to accomplish it. In a way , I feel for you.

if they are on your property and you feel threatened by them no matter how far away they are you can legally shoot them in most states...clear this with the police before doing so. also call in complaints to the police and animal control until they help you, by law when you make a complaint they have to look into it. if you have other neighbors who are willing to complain or sign a complaint form do so. these pit bulls have obviously been trained to be mean and aggressive and quite honestly a bullet may not stop them, if you see them out go inside and call the cops. otherwise use a shotgun the spray is wider and may make them stop although i have heard that shooting one only makes it more dangerous but defend yourself and your family at all costs.

In most counties, there is a leash law in effect. Try talking to you neighbors about this and if that doesn't help, then you have no choice but to contact anumal control and have the dogs picked up. You can tell animal control who the dogs belong to and they will contact the owner, but the owner wil have to pay to get the dogs out of impound, and if it keeps happening, the owner will lose the dogs for good. I hope it does't come to thig, but you can't have dogs running loose, because they may bite someone or God forbid, get hit by a car.

Check to see if there is a state or regional law about pit bulls or violent dogs. Check to see if other neighbors have problems with them too.
If your area doesn't have an animal control officer, contact someone besides the police (ask for the mayor or city manager).
I think I'd put up a fence if they government won't help you.

Call the police every time the dogs are loose and call animal control also. Let them get the dogs, you don't need to try to shoot one of them and get attacked by the other one or have the neighbor sue you over the dog.

First, don't call them "pit bull dogs" unless you know they are pits. There is enough Breed Specific Legislation going on that these great dogs don't need any more bad reputations.

Second, call animal control and tell them that you think they are going to attack one of the neighbor kids. Animal control will pick them up.

Report them to your local animal control shelter and/or public health dept. right away. And if you don't get a response from them, you can call the police. Pit Bulls are restricted in a lot of states, so it's against the law to let them loose! That is dangerous!

aggressive like look at you or at your house while standing on your property. i'm serious, ask the cop, they will back you on this. why in the heck doesnt your city have a more enforcable pit bull ordinance? i'd be pounding the mayor's office door and bringing this up to every city council meeting i could until someone did something. with "enforcement" like this it's just a matter of time before someone in your city gets killed by a dog, and usually it will be a YOUNG somebody. become an activist on this one!
