Ok, I am a Christian, I believe Jesus Christ to be the savior, but I am having a really hard time understanding the Trinity, I always thought it was one God who manifested himself in three ways, but I just read that that's called Monarchianism, which is a Christian heresy that was denounced back in the middle ages. I am really confused, I know we believe in ONE God, but how can ONE God be THREE people? Jesus is God right? The Holy Spirit is God right? And The Father is God right? So how is that 1 and not three? I don't mean to offend anyone because I am a Christian I just really need some guidance. Jesus said he and the Father are one so that means Jesus is God but wouldn't that mean that the Father manifested himself in the flesh and was called Jesus? Please Help.

The essence of God is spirit. The essence of God is an immaterial essence. God "is" Spirit. Notice, the bible does not in saying who God is, that he is "A" spirit. God is spirit...

Three persons, the personage of the Father is Spirit, the personage of the son is Spirit, and the personage of the Holy Spirit is Spirit. Three persons, one Spirit.

Three persons, one spirit, one God. God is essentially Spirit.

The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, they are three persons, each meet all the criteria indigenous to being a person, but as Spirit, they are one Spirit. Three persons, one Spirit. One Spirit, one God. God is not a person, God is Spirit.

Men are not spirit. Men have a spirit. Men are {1} body, {2) soul, and {3} spirit. One body, one soul, and one spirit constitutes one person. Father (1) Son, (2) Holy Spirit (3) One Spirit. One God. Three persons, one Spirit, one God.

Your logic has led you to the correct conclusion. the early christians never thought that Jesus was God; that idea was introduced centuries later when the political leaders of the day strived to have all the people, christian, pagan, and jew to believe in one thing to quell the mass violence brought on by religious hatred. This produced a mishmash of beliefs. this is also what is known as Catholicism. The Bible does not even imply that Jesus is God, and the Holy Spirit. Otherwise, what would be the point of including the account of Christ being baptized, Holy Spirit descending upon him, and his Father in Heaven speaking to him? This would be a gross mistake and contradiction of the Trinity if Jesus was all three of these beings. Man was created in God.s image. If I am not the same person as my mother, nor her ability to do things, then neither are God, Jesus, and The Holy Spirit all the same being. You will see that although many of these answers you receive that profess tobe proof of the trinity, are actually proof that there is no trinity. These answerers here say they believe that Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit are one, but they also say that the Father is highest. This indicates a hierarchy, of which trinitarian doctrine does not agree. It is true the Christ and his Father have a unique and very close relationship, and Jehovah uses the Holy Spirit, much like a boss uses hs power, authority, or money to get things done, but not one person will be able to explain to you, from the Bible, that all three are the same, and equal, without makingleaps and bounds in the way of assumption and speculation. Stick with the scriptures and you will understand much more.

The Trinity is called a mystery, because we cannot fully understand it with the limited ability that humans have to comprehend something or someone way beyond us. but there are a few analogies and explanations that help us to understand.

The beginning of the book of John is very helpful: 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... ' If we use the concept of Word... we can think of God the Father as the Divine Mind... we get an idea in our minds. God the Son can then be thought of as the concrete expression of the Divine Mind,,, our ideas are expressed in words. The Holy Spirit can be considered the Breath or Voice of God, we speak words with our voices on our breath. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit, and He only spoke what they heard from the father. In Genesis 'God spoke' and it came to be.

Another way to think of it is a Light. The Father is the source of Light, and Jesus is Light from Light, and the Holy Spirit is the one who is the dynamo.

So it is not 3 people persons, but more like personas.

I hope this helps some

You have asked a good question and have recieved several good answers that I hope you will check out Father is in Heaven, Son was God in the flesh John 1:1 &14, also read 1Timothy 3:16, the easiest way to try to explain it is The Father is the Sun, Christ is the light from the Sun and the Holy Spirit is the light from the Sun that warms or indwells us all three come from one source, the Sun, so Father ,Son and Holy Spirit. I know that isn't a scriptural explaination but it kind of gets the point across.

Actually there are 2 really good and interesting books out there called "Jesus in Genesis" and "Jesus in Exodus". That might help. They always taught us that it is a mystery. But the more you read scripture the more your eyes will be opened.

If you receive the Fullness of the Holy Spirit It would help a lot. Just pray that Jesus Spirit come and fill you and he will.

Think of it as three manifestations or ways of being. God is your Father and your brother, and His Spirit can work in you and through you when you grow closer to God.

Okay sweetheart, calm down. I can explain it to you very easy. The idea of the Trinity, is just an idea, and a bad one at that. There is NO trinity.

There is GOD- Jehova (no i am not a witness, that is his name)
There is JESUS- the only begotten son of Jehova
and there is the Holy Spirit- The Holy Spirit that God sends.

I can disprove the Trinity in one verse: Mat 24:36 "But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

It is implied that no one knows when Jesus will return, not even Jesus himself!!! So if the the Trinity are all supposed to be God, then they all would know. It's a false idea sweetie.

You make a very good point. It is hard to understand how God became man in the form of Jesus and yet, is also the Holy Spirit. Any belief can be labeled heresy depending on what you were taught and how it is interpreted. Here is the most simplified explanation that I can give; Anyone can be a number of people and yet still one individual. You can be a caring son to an aging parent, a devoted husband to your wife, and a doting father to your child, all at the same time. In much the same way, God the Father uses different aspects of his being to meet the needs of his children. He alternately provides discipline and loving kindness to us, his children. When we were locked outside the kingdom because of original sin, he became man in order to wash us clean and restore us to our birthright. And when we need guidance and comfort, he becomes the Holy Spirit leading us and keeping us on the right path. I personally beleive that we are not supposed to understand him completely. He said that "his ways are not our ways". The bible also states that we are to "lean not to our own understanding". The Old Testament is fullof parables and crytic messages meant to confuse and mislead all those except, the chosen. Do not be lead astray by the teaching of those who are not meant to "see". We are told that "his sheep will know his voice". We don't have to understand everything, to see evidence of him everywhere.
Ultimately, belief is a test of your faith. If you have "faith" in the Lord, it really doesn't matter if he is one, or one hundred and one. He is still able and willing to meet all our needs. All we have to do is trust him.

May God bless and keep you.

You were right before you got into the middle ages , LOL! that particular period of time really added and took away a lot from Christianity.

There is only ONE God. The Christian churches of today do a wonderful job of teaching this in a very confusing manner. I was in the church for ten years before I was taught in a way that was understandable. The best thing is to get it from a Hebrew perspective- the Bible was written from a Hebrew perspective yet we try to understand it from a 20th century western point of view- it does not always work very well. The trinity is not a concept taught in the bible and if you try to witness to a Jewish person using that approach they will see you as worshipping 3 Gods. Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is ONE.
In Jesus was the fullness of the Godhead, bodily- the body, flesh part of Jesus was fully man- but the fullness of God dwelt in him and he was fully God- manifesting Himself in the flesh. The Holy Spirit is fully God, manifesting himself in power to give us the peace, strength, discernment, wisdom, etc to walk out His perfect instruction.
The way it is taught in churches today gives the picture of three different beings- though I knew this was wrong - it was very hard to get this image out of my head.
Anyway, all this to say, you were right in the first place.

I have a way of looking at this and it makes it all easier to comprehend when it comes to this subject.

GOD = Family (3 in one)

It takes all three to make a family. One is not a family. Each member of a family has a function.

The sad part is we cannot imagine a family here on this earth in such harmony and agreement, but shouldn't we be?

The clearest text I have found in the Bible regarding the three in one follows:

1 John 5:6. This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

1 John 5:7
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
KJV

1 Tim 3:16- And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Not one time is the trinity mentioned in the bible. The term has been used by the Catholics for a long time and was adopted by denominations.

Not one time can a person prove that people were baptized in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit but...
in the book of Acts, Peter commanded men to be baptized in the name of the Jesus Christ ( who is the father, son, and Holy Spirit)
If you can show me one time in the bible that a person was baptized in the "trinity" I'll pay you $10,000.

Matt 28:19
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
KJV

Notice this scripture says to baptize in NAME of the Father...
who is the name of the Father? JESUS
and of the Son ... WHo is the name of the Son? JESUS
and of the Holy Ghost? JESUS

This is an awesome revelation of how people are to be baptized ... in the name of Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:38
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:39
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
KJV

KJV

Acts 2 will also explain about the Holy Ghost and what happens when a person is filled with the Holy Ghost which is speak in a heavenly language which is tongues.

Another scripture that I think would help is:
Acts 19:2-6
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
KJV

Many people say I was filled with the Holy Ghost when I believed but this group of people believed but Paul preaached that they should receive the Holy Ghost after they believed.

The scripture is full of awesome jewels that we are help accountable to believe and follow.

It sounds like you are on the right track with the attributes of God are.

An earthly example of the explaining Jesus as the father , son, and Holy Ghost is an egg.
You have the yoke, the white, and the shell but all three are considered an egg.
You got the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost but all three are Jesus Christ.

Good luck.
If you need me just let me know.

Not so difficult as it seems. Are you a mother? Are you a daughter? Are you a sister? So are you really three people or just one? What is your last name? Don't have to give it but think of it. Is your father with the same last name? Is he family? How about your mother? And a sister or brother? Don't you all have the same last name? But you are known by different first names. Say your name is Jones. You have father Jones, Mother Jones and Daugher Jones. Same with God, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Three persons but one person or family that all have the same purpose. Think of it as three persons with one family name, God. They are one in purpose. Just like your family purpose may be to get three kids in College and get good jobs so you all work on that purpose. God has a much bigger purpose but same idea. See, not so hard after all.
