In most cases, people who cut themselves are under some type of extreme stress or anger. And some people do it because it is a way of dealing with that stress. The cutting is something they can control. the pain to them means some form of relief. I don't pretend to know your situation. But i too, am a cutter, or I was. Then I realized that self destructive behavior isn't the answer. I'm guessing that you don't want your folks to know about your problem because you don't want them to be hurt. or maybe, you're afraid of what might happen if they find out. But think about it. You are their kid. They love you. They would only be angry because they care about you, and the thought of you hurting is too much to take. It would be like you cutting them. Clearly, you care about your loved ones. I think it would hurt them more if someone found out and confronted them. Be honest with them. Don't bullshit around with your body. There are so many other different ways of dealing that don't involve sharp objects and bleeding. It took me years to realize that. Your parents care, whether you thinks so or not. But, if you really want to keep it a secret, call someone you don't know who would be able to help you. Go to the web or a phone book. Call a crisis center. What ever you do, just know that every action we take in our lives has a reaction, a consequence. Believe me, I know.

If you really want help...youcan call a crisis hotline and talk to a professional about what is going on...they can give you some advice about who you might be able to see in your area without involving your parents at this time.
But you are going to have to tell your parents soon...this is a very serious addiction...I know...I am in my mid 30's and I still cut...Please talk to someone...try a teen hotline, or a school counselour...any adult you feel comfortable with...There are some groups on yahoo...if you want to get some support that way as well...type in self harm or cutting...on the groups page...
best of luck...

I used to burn myself on my legs and I know how you feel. Like the pain you feel from cutting is nothing compared to the pain you feel inside. And I did go see a counseler but I didn't even tell him about it. I grew stronger by realizing that the people I was burning myself over were so not worth it. I even spoke to my psychology class about it while wearing the first skirt I'd worn since I'd started the burnings. The physical scars will never go away but the emotional ones will heal once you let yourself become an example for others who have been in our position. I believe in you :).

My daughter used to cut. Sorry, to really understand your cutting and to get better, your parents will have to know and be a part of your healing. I don't know you, but for us, it was our family dynamics and my daughter's depression that led to her cutting. We all got family counseling and she got an antidepressant and within 6 weeks it was so much better - for all of us.

Don't feel guilty that you've let your parents down. I'm positive your parents would want to know so that they can help you. And you know what, sc**w them if they don't.

I know you're on the internet so you may understand how cutting helps you to physically feel better. But if you want to quit, you need to find better ways to feel better, to deal with your family dynamics, and to deal with stress. I know you can do it....

Counseling will help at least you with the dynamics and medication will help you to feel better and to resist the urges to cut.

School should be starting in a couple of weeks, if you can wait that long, talk to your counselor at school - I'm sure she's had other students who cut and she will keep it confidential. That's how my daughter reached out.

If you can't wait 'til school starts or if you don't want to talk to your counselor, call your local suicide prevention hotline. You aren't necessarily suicidial, but they can help you find help in your community.

I'm thinking good thoughts for you and hope that you find the happiness you deserve. If your family can't help, then you must do it yourself.

Grow up. Stop slicing your wrists. That's immature and stupid. Talk to the guidance counselor at your school or call a hotline.
