mr. jimenez is a 70 yr old chronic pulmonary disease patient(emphysema)who has smoked 2 packs a day for 40 years.He takes graet enjoyment and satisfaction in smoking and does not want to quit.In that his illness is exacerbated by the smoking,his physician is demanding that he quit.Each time he tries to quit smoking,Mr. Jimenez becomes irritable and unhappy.His wife and family hate it when he is not smoking because he becomes a bear to live with.
Consider this case from the position of Teleological theories and create a pleasure gained and pain avoided list to see if you can determine whether Mr Jimenez should continue or quit smoking

If he must smoke to keep himself and his family happy try cutting down to 1/2 a pack a day.

Keep smoking if he is going to die and he enjoy smoking why stop now its only going to prolong his life a little bit and he won't even enjoy living longer cos he loves smoking. Be happy right up until the end, he has already done all the damage

it's all about his quality of life. 70yr/old male with emphysema probably does not have much longer to live, of course it depends on the severity of his problem. But if he is carrying around oxygen all the time, then I would just let him smoke if it makes him happy.
