Yes it does. The spirit behind the doctrine is either God or not. God gifted me with the Holy Spirit, & of that is discernment of what is His Word & what isn't. He wants me to read the bible everything is says about who He is. He leads me to toss any false doctrine in the garbage & to cast down any imagination that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
The Spirit of truth & comfort is given to every child born of God. The Spirit is given by measure throughout the body of Christ, yet is one Spirit. When praying together in the Spirit, there is unity. When two or more are gathered in my name & agree (unity) in prayer for, there I AM also. I Am is God
Added later: There is true doctrine & false doctrine. True doctrine unite us. False doctrine divide us.
The good seed is the Word of God. The bad seed is sown of the devil.

It hasn't brought true unity yet, and I'm not holding my breath.
Jesus tried to make the point that following God is not about dogma or doctrine. He continually encouraged people not to live according to a written law, and warned that unless they could live according to the spirit, they would always be bound by the law.
Note also that when Jesus ascended he said he would send a helper - the Holy Spirit, but he didn't mention anything about a New Testament, and he didn't leave any writings behind. Jesus never intended for his followers to turn his teachings into a new written law, much less a new religion - he wanted to free us from that. And the New Testament writers had no idea that their letters would some day be turned into a New Testament and come to be the source of doctrinal squabbles.
Jesus tried to get the message across that if we live according to the Holy Spirit we don't need doctrine, much less a Holy Book. He said that all of the commandments could be summed up into two: Love God and Love your neighbor. It's so simple, and yet we humans have to have something to squabble over, and we like being right, - so we had to create a whole new religion based on written law. Sad, really.

what is true wouldn't be false, and vice-versa. A doctrine about GOD are statements verifying the existence of the Almighty provider (whatever name he is known). a doctrine is made by people who witness or "claims" to witness such an event/miracle.
look at it this way, you follow the constitution of the land, obeying the law, right? what's the difference between the constitution and the doctrine itself? both are beliefs (of different aspects, i guess) yet both share one thing in common - stating what has to be followed and obeyed.
yes, the truth divides at first but in the end, unity would be attain.. thing is, up to what aspect should it be scrutinize upon before it becomes a reality? arguments would be raised, and days into months into years (and maybe, a decade or century so)... before the truth should come out and be accepted.
Realize this, all being discuss and argued about are all assumptions and presumptions. come judgment day 9as we may know it) , the truth would finally be revealed....

Funny a Baptist should say that. I was born and bred Baptist and they are the most self-righteous, judgemental and legalistic of any demonination i have examined so far. It is not simply doctrine that divides, it is people and their attitudes. Don't think I'm being arrogant. I grew up in that atmosphere and it is a crying shame that so many good people are badgered into being so closeminded and blind to what God's love can really be like.Apparently, being a Christian (Christ-like) isn't about accepting the prostitutes or being genuinely friendly with "outsiders" like He did. Now it's all about wearing a tie, tithing, going to church and memorizing more scripture than the next guy. If God wanted us to just be "good" people he would've sent us a list of rules, numbered, in black and white. Instead He gives us free will, an inquisitive mind and personal interpretation of his messages to us.

It can if people would but let it but most don't want to know the truth. Most do not want to study it out for themselves but would rather be told what the bible says and take the preachers word for it even when he/she may be telling them wrong. Even when the evidence is right there for all to see, they still do not want to believe what is said. Like the Ten Commandments and especially the fourth one that says the Seventh day is the Sabbath day that you are to worship on but the Catholic church says, no, we changed it to Sunday so that is the day you should worship on. So who do people take as telling the truth? The Catholic Church over the Bible. They are told it does not matter, it was a Jewish thing, done away with. But if you ask about the other nine commands, they are all of a sudden not Jewish but still in effect but only the Sabbath was Jewish. Now what makes that Jewish and not the rest of the nine that nobody has trouble with? Simple doctrine that most are brought up not thinking for themselves so they take the Catholic way over the bible way and call it good. Same goes with a lot of other teachings of the Catholic church. Many are taken as fact when there is no fact to it, such as eternal Hell fire that just roasts you for all eternity or that you go direct to Heaven when you die or you can talk to your dead loved ones, all Catholic teachings but embraced by the so called Protestant churches. Check the bible and you find no eternity in Hell, no going to Heaven at death but that you go at the Second coming of Jesus, and that you can't talk to your loved ones as they do not hear you and know nothing of what is going on. All biblical but how many really believe the bible that say they take it only? Very few. It would bring total unity if people would just read it and interpret it for themselves rather than have someone tell them lies about it that it says things it is not saying at all. Check it out if you doubt it. Site below has a concordence as well as studies you can do that tell it like it is from the bible and lets you be the judge.

Doctrine is a big issue. If I were to tell you that the Father's name is not lord or god, but YHVH(pronounced YAH-VEH), you would be appalled. The truth is, that was and is His given name in Exodus 3:14-16. The fact that His name has been removed form our scripture by satan is no surprise. I ask that all would come to realize HIS Name, and not that of a false pagan idol. If only christians would realize the words they speak, and the seeds we all sow, it would be a revival. HalleluYAH, not JAH. Then letter 'J' is only 500 years old! That is the difference in doctrine that you speak of isn't it? We are afraid what mainstream christianity thinks, and what is actually reality.

We should all care about what is True and what is not. But it is MAN'S doctrines that sepperate us. If we could all just read the Bible, take it at face value and not try and put our own understanding into it then we'd have half a chance. But for now, we have Calvinists, Arminians, Catholics, Baptists, Lutherans, Apostolics ALL depending on man's doctrines and not taking the Word for what it says and living with it.

This depends on what your definition of truth is.
I have heard some very bigoted Ideas from people who claimed to be Christians.
They quoted biblical verses to support these bigoted ravings of theirs. Granted they were digging up nonsense from the old testament to support their hateful rants but they swore that it was true because It came from the bible.
These false truths only divide and separates us, it never brings unity, only hate.
Love and blessings

People don't agree on what doctrine IS, though. What you may believe to be true about god, other people may believe is not true.
And you can't really claim that those other people are wrong on that matter, because you have no objective way of proving your beliefs about god.
You should certainly care about your own beliefs, but you shouldn't concern yourself with the beliefs of others.

Yes...wholeheartedly agree. Most people don't want to hear the truth when they have been taught lies that are ingrained.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
