Info for Toyota USA...

Different Toyota regions all order their own smaller set of option packages, even though Toyota USA offers 8 different option packages.

Go to http://www.toyota.com/prius and go to "Build and Price My Prius" and then fill in your ZIP code, to see what option packages are available in your region.

Some regions may actually offer an optionless base Prius. Last I checked, the New England Toyota region was one of them.

If you want a specific package (or in this case, packageless) Prius, and it is not available in your region, then you have 2 options:
1. contact dealers in a region that you are willing to drive/fly to, and see if they have one available or one coming in soon
2. contact different salespeople and different dealerships in your area, and see if you can find someone who is willing to do a special order or an inter-dealer trade to get you the package that you want.

As for in stock, it's possible, but highly unlikely. You'd have to not care what color you get, since you are being so picky on option package. You'd also have to call/email a lot of dealerships to find one on the lot. Most dealerships have waiting lists of some form, and many of the ones that have Prius on-the-lot are the ones that are charging an "availability premium" markup over MSRP.

Do remember that many of the options you cannot add to a Prius later should you decide that you really want them. HID headlamps, Navigation, side air bags, VSC, Smart Entry & Smart Start, are just a few that have to be ordered with the car to get it and cannot be added later.

Also remember that the US federal tax credit for the Prius is set to drop in half on Oct. 1, 2006, so try and take delivery on or before Sept. 30, 2006.

Good luck!

lolol can't be done-- Toyota is not making but just a couple of them because they are so trendy right now that they are selling every one they make- so they load them up with every option and the dealer adds a "market adjustment" charge.

it is trendy to be seen as green right now and the prius is the only hybrid that is purposely designed to look "different" - so when you pull up to a light others can look at the driver and say ' wow look the greenie" Honda has several great hybrids worth considering- accord and civic- but because they look like reg Honda's it doesn't get the attention and accolades from fellow Eco lovers.

FYI check out real life reports of people's/ real life test experience with Pruis..in Car and Driver and Consumer Reports- you will find that the MPG are not that different and certainly don't justify the extra costs nor the true extra environmental long term impact of the huge battery pollution problems at the end of battery life at 100,000 miles compared to other vehicles. Check out the complete facts.. and if you find a Prius at list without all the extras you don't want ...then go for it.. you got a deal on a car you really want-

even if it is not all it is cracked up to be..

but then again I would love a Porsche cayman and there is nothing reasonable about it at all in any way shape or form lol

You are going to be out of luck finding a base Prius, because the dealers know they can sell them easy right now. Therefore they only order the costly ones to make more money. You probably should just keep on looking or buy a different car.

The Prius is such an in demand car right now that the dealers won't try to compte for you. Your best option is to to check online, look for the dealers near you, and enter the options you want. Then go to the different dealerships and try to get as much for your trade in a possible, and get good financing. The best hope is to get the car at regular retail, without additional markup due to popularity. And make sue you get a good warranty on the battery - to replace one costs about $4,000.Yes, four thousand dollars.

Go to http://www.toyota.com or www.toyota.ca wherever you are, find the dealers in your area and call them or send an E-mail, say this is what I want. If they have it and if they believe that you are real buyer, they will contact you. The more dealers you contact, the more chances you have to get better price - let them compete for you.
