Have you tried taking the battery out and leaving it out for awhile? It may need to be re-set, just like rebooting your computer. Otherwise, the battery may just have gone bad. But, I would think it would work with the DC cable. Try taking the battery out and leave it out for a day. Then try DC cable again. Then try recharging battery.

i offered a charger and rechargeable batteries for mine. The charger and batteries cost me around $20, despite if it has saved me greater advantageous than that. i do no longer think of any frequently happening batteries particularly final that long in a digital camera. My Energizer battery charger got here with 4 AA batteries.

That happened to me to but when I got new batteries, it started working. I think it is the batteries that go bad and not the camera.

Yes, it can even destroy the digicam. that is why manufacturers have this reminder (in the manual) & make it clear that you have to remove the battery from the device when it's not to be used for a long time. they even guide you how to store it properly.
hopefully, cross your fingers, your digicam only developed a power problem (had experienced it with my miniDV camcorder, fortunately it's not really that long time) or else your digicam is caput (broken).
Bringing it to a service center is best as they can repair it even if it's totally broken.
best of luck!

I suspect a bad battery as well. You might consider replacing it and trying again.

It's possible the batteries leaked though I haven't seen that in years...
Hopefully it's still under warranty.

I wouldn't leave batteries in electronics for extended periods of time if you are not going to use them...esp. if they are cheap batteries because they can start to leak after whille.
