I have taken this medication for many many years. Started out a fire stabbing pain in my stomach - doctor put me thru tests (drinking stuff and x-rays). They could not "find" anything with all the tests. Went on Prilosec and it has worked -- he refilled prescriptions, etc. and time goes on. I have been on it so long now and now it is non-prescription but still expensive and pain in stomach is and has been gone. I tried going off of it but ended up with horrible indigestion - acid reflux - no sleep, etc --- bad bad stuff. Tried other meds to reduce acid - no go. So now I am afraid my BODY is addicted to Prilosec and I can't stop taking it or I'm feeling like - oh..can't explain the discomfort. It's that bad. Kind of like trying to explain the pain of childbirth - I can't explain that either. Anyway, any of you out there have ANY ideas or going through the same thing? Pretty sad-there's no REHAB for this kind of thing-LOL but I'm really kind of serious as I don't want to pay anymore.

My husband is in the same boat as you. He has taken priolsec sooo long, if he misses one day, he has bad, bad heartburn, doctors don't seem to worry, cause they keep filling the prescription. (We get it with a script cause its cheaper that way) But I did read that if you are on it too long, it can really mess up or even cause cancer in you laranex. We are going to another New doctor Friday, hopefully this one can tell us what to do. Good Luck!!

Prilosec comes in generic, and it is cheaper if you have insurance.
