First, not EVERYONE thinks it's fiction.
Second, many of the points in the movie are based on historical facts, anecdotes, etc....
Third, wake up people, the Bible is a fictional work too. It was written by MEN. People "made it up". Just because it's widely read and "believed" doesn't make it REAL.
There are 150 religions practiced on Earth that have at least 1,000,000 followers. That's at least 150 million people that "believe" that their "holy book" is the "truth". Which group has it "right"?
Facts vs Feelings. Facts are based on evidence...proof... experience. Feelings are often based in belief. Beliefs are not facts. They are highly charged, addictive emotions, often masquerading as "truth".
I wish you Peace.

Pretty good indicator when the author says it is total fiction. So there are those that say there is a holy grail. They can't prove it and if they think Jesus, a poor man with no money, could afford a richly done cup to drink out of for the last supper, they have to be totally crazy. He would have had a simple cup that was not ornate in any way as it was His way as was everything He did. I watch the Discovery/History channels too but you still get a lot of fiction on them too and things that have never been proven. They are not the authority on all things.

Hahaha... if you actually have watched any of the specials on the Discovery or History Channel, you would know that they have systematically disproven everything the Da Vinci Code claims, even its supposed "Facts" listed at the front of the book.
Holy Blood, Holy Grail is just as fictional as the Da Vinci Code, and just as fictional as the "research" on which it was based.
Please, if you're gonna rant about people being lied to, try not to make your lies so obvious.

Judging from your secondary remarks, it is probably useless to tell you the truth since your mind apparently is already made up.
But, I'll try, nonetheless.
The idea behind the da Vinci Code is just as fictional as the novel and movie. It is nothing in total but a patchwork quilt of an obscene fact here being linked to an obscure fact there with nothing to support the connection except the most teneous of rationales--such as a beachball is round and a baseball is round and Pope Whatis was so fat that his belly was round and therefor there's the connection, dudes. Now gasp in awe.
It's all trash, dude, total trash. People spend years on working these things out because they want to sell a book or a magazine article.

Umm, because it is fiction. -stares blankly- Just because a book contains a smattering of points that are slightly true doesn't make the entire thing factual. Why else would it be sold in the 'Fiction' section of most/all bookstores and libraries? In order for something to be in the Non-Fiction section, it has to have more than just a glint of truth.. it must be mostly true or all true (from the author or affected parties perspective, naturally).
And I wouldn't trust the History Channel as far as I could throw it. If you want bias, turn on the tv.

Because it is instead of watching the descovery channel and other bs scifi on tv... read a history book... read art history and church history... you may be suprised....
Those Tv channels were inspired by the people that believe in fiction... they are trying to rewrite history in order to please the libral secular mindset... of a more heathen like Jesus...
Just look at the facts if you want reality... if you prefer blissfull ignorance, have it your way...
The documents that the french con man made of the people that protected the "secret" of Jesus "liniage" were fake... the priory of sidon was made up... it's fiction... COLD HARD FACTS...
It don't matter what the church says... the church ain't hiding nothing from me... I'm a protestant...
I guess this Fiction has become popular cause people tend to be so gulible and they don't trust the church... they don't like Jesus or Christians... so let's make a book that is full of fiction and claims to be fact... everyone will believe and turn away from the Truth...
Dan Browns book is just as fictional as this story line...
Before WW2 in 1937, the growing Comunist States of America allied themselves with the evil soviet British empire... against the Democracy of Germany... then a young Rightious Hitler came to power and gathered his young Nazi holy warriors to defend the free sate of Germany from the evil President Stalin of Comunist America and the soviet prime Minister Roosevelt of the British empire... the war ended in 1950 and when the Nazis won they spred democracy to England and America
Then they withdrawed back to Germany in 1956... over the years the U.S. with bitter hatred for loosing the war framed Hitler and his rightious Nazis as evil and the conspearacy against Nazi Germany has spread ever sence... the government doesn't want you to know the truth, they have re written the historybooks and erased all signs of Americas Comunist past... They have agents every where and if they find out about me telling you this I will be killed and my ID will be erased....
If the Truth was let out... the world would turn upside down...
Do you believe, you say, " No of course not, I read history books and my Grandparents can tell you as well"
But what about the people that have never read U.S. History and never heard of WW2... the will take it as truth because they don't know any better... it actually attracts them to reveal the false conspiracy.... but it is all crap... they don't know the difference.. and some don't want to read the History books because they thought the U.S. covered up the past and have rewritten it....
Do you see the same coralation that this bs story has with the Da Vinci code?
But " Ignorance is bliss, believe whatever suits your scifi mindset... live in your dream world... you don't have to wake up a see the truth... believe what you want to.."
But remember this... Every one is intitaled to their own oppinions, BUT Not their own facts.
get the facts straight...
o and God bless...

This would not be the first book or movie to use actual things or ideas to make a FICTION story. If you have read your bible lately than you would know that it doesn't match up. Whoever made the book or movie wanted a controversial reaction and got it because he knew people like you would blow it out of proportion and take it seriously when it is FICTION.

You already answered your own question. People think it's fiction cause the book is published as fiction. It doesn't matter that some of the ideas may be real.
What if I wrote a fictional novel about a girl who is battling with anorexia. My story is fiction. Just cause anorexia exists doesn't make my novel true. See?

The ideas in the Da Vinci Code are mainly from the early Gnostic Christians. Some of their works can be found in the Nag Hammadi Library.

Holy blood holy grail was based on a forgery, honey.
"As it turns out, the "Priory of Sion" as it currently exists was actually an elaborate hoax perpetuated by Pierre Plantard, a right-wing french nationalist looking for political power and attention (as, of course, the "rightful" heir in the Merovingian bloodline). He enlisted the help of two individuals, one an adept historian of the Merovingian dynasty, to forge and diseminate the "Priory" documents to the authors of the book...who bit on it hook, line, and sinker. After the book was written, Plantard acknowledged the forgery under pressure from the French authorities after they seized his residence and a treasure trove of "Priory" documents. Apparently, the authors of the book continue to stick to their hypothesis even though they know the evidence is tenuous at best.
