I always figure 12000 miles a year, any more then no good

The type of car really shouldn' t matter. The avg is about 12,000 a year, 15,000 on the high side. But a properly maintained higher mileage vehicle is a better buy than a lower mileage car without appropriate maintenance. It also depends on when they bought the car - was it in the fall of '03 or spring of '04?
Basically,anything between 36,000-50,000 could be okay.

Depends on the car. I bought my 2003 Honda Accord in Janurary with 41k miles in it. I commute with it every week and it's now at 57k miles and the car runs perfect, no noise or vibration from the engine.

But if you are buying a Ford Mustang, that's a different story...
