If it is a typical digital camera, take the batteries out and rinse it with distilled water and dry it on a towel. Put fresh batteries in it after a week or so, and see if it works. Good luck!

It may be toast. Salt corrodes badly. If she would have rinsed it off in fresh water right after it was dunked, there may have been a chance once it dried out. But by now, the salt has already eaten away at it. If it's a really high dollar camera, take it to a camera shop and see what they think. If it isn't, toss it and get another.

I think you'll have to write this one off as a life lesson. I used to work in a photo shop, where lots of people brought in damaged cameras for repair, including a few dunked in salt water. I never saw one of those revived. You have nothing to lose, so try whatever you like, including a rinse. It can't hurt it and it MIGHT help. Don't be too hopeful, though.

It is history. If it had been fresh water you may have had a chance. Salt water is not only corrosive, but it also leaves behind a film once it dries. Even if it is rinsed with fresh water, it will leave a film behind that will damage the electronics.

If it's a digital camera, it's toast. Rinsing it with water would be like trying to put out a fire with a flame-thrower.
