Bad grammar, bad spelling... What was so hard about creating coherant words, phrases and sentences in school that didn't carry over to your online tirades?

Wow, you think there might actually be someone on Yahoo from another country? Maybe someone who didn't learn English as a primary language?

P.S. Just thought you might want to know that it is spelled "coherent", not "coherant"! If you are going to rant about the spelling skills of others, that is a bad place for a typo.

Thank you so much for posing this question. Please forgive me for adding my opinion.

- To those who think that grammar is only for school:
It's not true that no one cares about spelling and grammar mistakes now that you're "not being graded on it any more". You were graded on it in the first place so that you truly learned it, or at least to get you into the habit of writing correctly.

- What's with entire words being replaced by single letters? Honestly people, if you have time to browse Yahoo! Answers, you have time to type the extra couple of letters!

Boy are you about to get blasted. You are not supposed to expect good communication skills on this site. Check out the responses I got to the question I asked a couple of days ago,"Ignorant or Lazy". Most were good responses but a few were really critical of me for thinking I would expect people to use the English language with some proper execution.

Thanks for standing up for intelligible communications.

Itz teh excymint of teh moment! i typ fast to be 1st yo give me teh 10 pontz! ryght!?!?!

Ranks right up there with OMG and LOL in my books. I have noticed at during different parts of the day there are different age groups and intelligence levels on yahoo answers.
Now the key is finding that magical time when all questions are intelligent and well worded....and the answers you receive are actual answers combined with legible words. Yes it may be a pipe dream but I still hold onto that hope.

Unforturnately, 99% of the users probably have passed English grammer. In the USA, grammer takes a low priority. Teaching garbage like "Jimmy has two Mommies" seems to take precedance.

Well I think its because we don't invest alot of time when we type are answers, and alot of the time we're typing on laptops with keys on top of each other. I think the validity and honesty of the answer should count more then the grammar, that is of course unless your asking a grammar, question! I graduated from college and this answer probably has gramatical errors and misspellings but the answer still remains valid!

This is the BEST question I have seen on this site yet. THE BEST! I am so excited! I was beginning to think I was the only one who had noticed! Half the time I sit and have to try to decipher what the question even is, it is written so poorly. If I didn't enjoy the points so much I would have left a long time ago.

It's sad, isn't it? Grammar and English weren't really widely important subjects in high school for me. I mean, I thought they were, but the school district apparently didn't think so. I remember in my sophomore English class, my teacher, Mr. Neff, used to use double negatives. HELLO?!

When I started college, I took a class (mandatory for my degree program) called Business Grammar. I loved that class and I loved my instructor. She held her PhD, and was probably one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. She confessed to us that after church service on Sundays, she'd take her church bulletin home, mark it up with proof readers marks (using her trusty red pen...oh the red pen!) and put it discreetly in the collection plate (along with her donation, of course) the following Sunday. Hah!

Most are still in school, and some are from other countries and English is their second language. But school is not an excuse because the grammer seems to be about 2nd grade.

It's not just in Yahoo Answers. It happens all over the internet and sometimes spills out into the real world. Most people type really fast and hit enter, without proofreading. You have no idea how many times I go over my answers...
