The long-term effect of drinking is alcoholism, which can lead to death.

Excessive drinking, even in moderation, may lead to a decrease in mental and physical performance.

Contrary to a popular belief that alcohol is a substance that stimulates, it is actually a depressant.

Some research has shown that a "few" drinks a day may improve health; but, so does exercise and eating a balanced diet.

Many books have been published on drinking, alcoholism, and its effects. Web sites can also be accessed addressing the subject. Check out your local library and the internet.

If you believe you are an "alcoholic" , look in the Yellow Pages of your phone directory for Alcoholics Anonymous meeting sites, and just listen to the stories of people who have, and are , combatting a drinking problem. You will not be asked for anything except your first name; and, you can even give a false name. No one questions you.

Only you can be responsible for your drinking habits.
