Entamoeba histolytica is an anaerobic parasitic that infects predominantly humans and other primates. It can usually be cured with antimicrobial medications prescribed by a doctor.

Drugs include metronidazole, tinidazole, secnidazole, diloxanide furoate, furazolidone, di-iodohydroxyquinoline. Secnidazole is single- dose treatment , while the other drugs have to be taken for 7 to 10 days.
