Who cares if He was? And why does that have to change anything. Yes, we are supposed to read the bible, but despite all else, the Bible was written by someone (lots actually) and things get left out either by accident or on purpose. For some to say that it is absolutly impossible for Jesus to have been married, then they are saying that mariage is sin. And that married people can not preach the word of God. Where does that fit in? A true Christian only wants people to believe in Christ and His life and His death for our sins, not argue with you about whether or not the man was married. And one last thing, who's idea was it that if He had children their offspring should have some miracleous impact on us? JESUS WAS HUMAN.................................... So his offspring would have been offspring too. (do your children feel exactly like you do, or do you feel exaclty like your parents? It is Called FREE WILL )

The reason people tend to get wound up when some suggest Jesus had been married is that, that act would then cause people to ask questions regarding his offspring, his human emotions, his marriage vows...etc. Basically, it would undermine his credability as being part of the trinity(which incidentally is not in the bible, it's a human assumption). It simply did not sit well with the council who originally decided what went in the bible and what did not, as Jesus would, to them, have seemed less 'godly' had he had sexual intercourse and (heaven forbid!) human male desires of the flesh!
See, although the bible may be a good guide for living life on a higher plane of consciousness, there can be no denying it was written by Man, who(Free Will and all that) expressed their OWN ideas and social conditioning at the time of writing. For those who state that it is wholly the word of God and nothing else, they are quite deluded. If God wrote through those authors, it would have contraviened the whole 'Free Will' thing. Also, why didn't he interviene to correct the vast amount of mistranslations in current editions of the bible?
There are simply too many errors to take what the bible says as gospel. Those who do are fools to themselves and blind to the obvious, let alone self-deceiving!

...sorry...I think I ranted a bit there...

Juanita Moreno..."every other written work that discussed His[Jesus] life"!?? Erm...I assume you mean the TWO other sources that only mention him in passing? Even THEN, they do NOT speak of Jesus as anything more than a plain old mortal man...Is lying no longer a sin, then?

It is about the Bible being the word of God and what the Bible says about Jesus being true, or the truth according to human authors of fiction movies and books.. The Big Deal is that there are specific things written in the Bible that have and are happening and the accuracy of the Bible is important.
WHAT IF they made a fiction movie based on the life of your Father and portrayed him as a pedofile?? It is fiction, but people begin to talk and say there is the person whose dad the movie was about.. Then they start to think it is true..

I'm with you. I think that a lot of Christians wouldn't care either way if Jesus was married. I think it would have the biggest impact on Catholics. They teach that priests and nuns must be celibate. Why? I'm not really sure. I have never heard that anywhere in the Bible that to teach Gods word you must be abstinent, or how it reflects your relationship with God. Didn't God say to Adam and Eve "Be fruitful and multiply"?

In the Bible, Jesus said that there are those who forsake marriage and live celibacy "for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven," and He encouraged those who are called to this lifestyle to pursue it.

He didn't require it, of course, but He did say "let those who can accept it, accept it."

Jesus was not the kind of guy who would suggest that people do something that He wasn't willing to do Himself.

I seriously doubt He would have encouraged "those who were able" to live celibacy -- if He Himself were not doing it.

That just wasn't His style.

There is no mention whatsoever of any wife or children or Jesus -- not just in the Bible, but also in every other written work that discussed His life, which are numerous in addition to the Bible.

I would not matter one bit. The Bible says Mosses was married, and apparently did more miracles than Jesus.

Jesus had one reason for coming, He came to die for our sins, not to have a family and a car. He was focused, and knew God intimately even though He was a child. Even as a child He would go into the Tabernacle and teach. He was focused on what He came to do, and He did it.

Jesus was suppose to be more than human (He rose from the dead). He lived as a man, but was the son of god. The issue with him being married is that it makes him seem more ordinary than extraordinary. Mary wasn't a virgin, but she has to be to be extraordinary. They're trying to make a case that Jesus was the son of god.

I agree with you.

What does it matter now whether he was married or not?

There is no way you can find the sons of the sons of the sons.

Let it be. I find this quite a silly subject.
