I have used lemon juice on my hair before, but it only works in the sun and works best if you have naturally blonde hair (all shades) or light brown hair. Otherwise you get a funky orange color going on. Not sure of the effects on someone who has bleached or highlighted dark hair.
However, you should dilute it a little with water or else your hair can fry. I put the solution in a mini spray bottle and spritz it in my hair about every 30 minutes. Use a big-toothed comb to evenly coat it through the strands. Make sure you wipe off any that drips down on your face. Citric acid on the skin when exposed to the sun might burn you (similar to the reaction your skin might have from hair coloring but to a lesser degree).
Another handy tip: Lemon juice (un-diluted) is also good for natural blondes who go swimming in the pool and come out with greenish-hued hair (thereby resembling The Hulk's sister). In the shower, just pour the juice on your head and work it in like you were shampooing. It should get the green out.

We used to use lemon juice to lighten our hair. I am a redhead and turned my hair completely blonde years ago. We used to just spray it on. You can still buy a product called Sun In that is about the same.

yes, but you have to be in the sun in order for it to really work. When you spend a day at the beach or outdoors, spritz some lemon juice into your hair and the citric acid combined with the heat and sun lightens the hair
but be careful, if you have dark hair, your hair will just look orange, this technique works best for light brown or dark blonde hair.....no black or dark brown

Yes it does work....but how long it will take before you see results depends on your natural hair colour. The darker you hair...the longer it will take to highlight with just lemon juice.
Have you tried using sun-in spray? It works quite well.

lemon juice is not good for highlights,it will leave your hair dry with split ends and will strip the oils from your hair.it doesn't work in any way to help hair, just ruin it. i learned it the hard way and it took me weeks to restore my hair to the way it was before.don't do it no matter what anyone says.

lemon juice, mayo and eggs are only used to make your hair shine. so if you want your highlights to be shiner that would be the way to go

Yes but it burns your hair. You'll get highlights but you hair will not be as healthy and could look a bit chemically processed.

put in in a spray bottle and then spray it on wet hair. Brush it through your hair so it comes out evenly. Then let the sun dry your hair naturally.
