It means that the message"thread",(postings) on message boards are stupid pointless etc, hence the description"gay".
It's not to imply that the messages are homosexual.
It's a quick way to let others know that they shouldn't waste their time to read through though,so use it!

I'm not too sure, but I'll take a wild guess. A "thread" usually refers to an online discussion group subject. For example, there might be a discussion about history. Then someone decides they've had enough of the topic and wants to go on to another subject, so they start a new "thread". In the example you present, apparently the subject concerns or is about homosexuals and/or lesbians. At least that's what it connotes to me, but I may be wrong.

You should eat some cookies and go to sleep for a while after reading all the answers. You will wake up with a new understanding of life and how to pet a cat.
...and we're moving on...

Gay means "absurd". I've also heard gay used to mean stupid ("That's the gayest suggestion I've ever heard!") or non-functional ("This flat tire is [unprintable] gay!") It follows on how the original meaning of the word gay has changed over time, from meaning happy, to referring to homosexual; that is, from sex that actually causes babies to sex that has no biological functionality.

It means the thread is lame, not worth reading, full of vapid airheadedness.
