completely free for home users.
And unlike some comments below is actually better than most paid for virus scanners. I'm a programmer, and its coded very simplistically and well, never had a problem with a virus. A lot of paid virus scanners are 'bloated' and waste system resources while being too constrictive.
AVG make their money from business users (who pay) while home users get it for free.

Go to: http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/
Microsoft and CA is giving free trial Antivirus Subscription for a full 1 year!
CA EZ Antivirus is pretty good and lightweight. I recommend you to choose this one, especially if you have older computer, or do not want antivirus to use too many CPU resources.
Alternatively go to: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/viruses/wsc/en-us/default.mspx
You have a few trial antivirus programs from Symantec, McAfee, Panda, TrendMicro, and F-Secure.
