what i think she needs is a therapist to deal with the grief or the anger or whatever the heck it is that is holding her back from getting on with her life. start messing with that stuff and you can do some major damage. the dream was probably because you convinced yourself that was what was wrong.

By far, most cases of presumed "possession" stem from unrecognized mental illness. In this case, it sounds like yours.
Under no circumstances should you tinker with or otherwise attempt The Roman Ritual of Exorcism. This is a Sacrament to be administered only by a trained, ordained Priest (and a brave one, at that).
Start messing with the void and you just may find the void messes back. But really, kid...
why not just give this person some time to recover from their father's death? And, while you're at it?
See a shrink.

Death is an event that brings up all sorts of unresolved issues. You need to get some expert help to assist you in sorting all this out.
I would say that whether this is a mental health problem or a case of spirit possession, you don't want to go it alone and you don't want to involve amateurs. Start with either a priest, minister, mental health professional and get some advice for handling this situation.

I've heard of it being done by mass prayer. Meaning that a group of believers will gather with the possessed person and pray together for hours at a time.

I do not think a priest is necessary for an exorcism but you would need someone that is knowledgeable and strong in the faith to perform one

Call a validly ordained Preist
There is a part of scripture where someone is trying to exorcise a demon, even calling on the name of Jesus. The demon simply replied saying, "I know who Jesus is...and I've heard of Paul...but, who are you?" The demon then beat this person and companions to a pulp and ran them off.
If you don't really know what you're doing, don't play with fire.
