It's expensive, but I like Starbucks. They provide it at work, which makes me happy. The bottom line is, it doesn't matter, but I do prefer starbucks.

Maxwell House

I have to go with "Starbucks." First of all it is great coffee, they do an excellent job of buying in the Starbuck's organization. I love the variety. They have always a good selection of the three most important types of coffee: African, Indonesia and American. I prefer the richness of Indonesian and the pure power of African while my wife likes the mild balanced flavor of American coffees so we just love to make our own blends of the three.

But the most important feature of Starbuck's for me in the roast! Most common roast in the Americas is what you call "City Roast" in the US and we call "Americano" down here in Mexico. I just hate it, it is weak and insipid and is far too light a roast to bring out the complicated oils and flavors of really good coffee.

I prefer a "Vienna Roast" which while dark and rich is not "burnt" like the French and Italian roasts. That is what the Starbuck's Roast is closest to and what makes it, despite all the hype, simply one of the best coffees available.

Oh, what was that you said? Maxwell House? I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about COFFEE!

Maxwell House is better than Folgers. But Millstone is better than Maxwell House (even though it is from the company that makes Folgers). My sister got me hooked on it.

From a coffee shop: Gloria Jean's. I like the variety that they have.
Starbucks is overrated---it just sells because of the name.
