end of the year? Does this mean the war will be over?

The main security force right now is the US and other Coalition Forces, keeping the place from falling under another dictator or becoming a breeding ground for terrorists or allowing Iran to take over. The UK is talking about handing over security of the southern areas by December. Last I head on the news was that the Iraqi Army and Security forces will not be able to take over for the entire country for another 18 months.

The war has been over for 3 years, or rather War operations have been over for 3 years. Since then, keeping the peace has been the mission, not letting insurgents interfere with formation of the Government.

If you are asking if US troops will be leaving when Iraq takes over security? Who knows. We will leave when the Iraq Government asks us to. I'm sure we will have some sort of presence there for some years to come, who knows.

Nope. It has been said before. The country is still in turmoil and if we turned it over now the country would fall apart and the war would truly have been for nothing. We can never leave Iraq as long as they push for strictly Democracy. Those people over there are uneducated and cannot make intelligent choices therefore they cannot vote. They would just allow themselves to be taken advantage of like they have always been. They need a strong dictatorship and a good man to look up to so they do not have to solve there own problems. The government needs to be the same as it was because these people do not like freedoms. They want things to be done for them and if we could just keep the leader from taking advantage of the people over there they would be fine.

I must agree... I've been there and the Iraqi police and Iraqi SF "Security Forces" are not capable of taking control of their own country. They are ill equipped, ill trained, and most importantly... do not have the honor to their country. The Iraqi people know nothing but conflict. Look at their history.. so much bloodshed during it's history that violence is all they know. Let them take over and I would not be surprised to see them lose control within a couple of months.
