My little brother just passed the national EMT exam last week. My suggestion would be to go national. That way if you ever decide to move all you have to do is pay the licensing fee.

One thing to consider is that most major corporations have medical personnel on staff and an EMT certificate could mean the difference between getting hired or not hired even in an unrelated profession...especially if the company knows they can transfer you and have the cert still be valid.

National Registry looks great on a resume but you don't need it.

What matters is being locally certified. Countys and states follow the guidelines set by the NR but they set their own protocols.

So if you are nationally accredited and not locally you can't work or you can work but for a limited time until you become locally licensed.

I would recommend taking the Nationa Registry exam...life is unpredictable and you don't always know what is going to happen. You may have to move out of state someday. It's a lot easier to pass National Registry when you are fresh out of school, too, rather than waiting to see if you will ever need it.

It is always better to take the National Registary Exam. This exam is a lot tougher than the State exams and it gives you an edge when it comes to the job market. Goodluck and study hard!
