With it being so hot out, I don't like letting my cat out much. But, when I do, he does a little hop out the door, like he's jumping for joy....does anyone else have a cat that does this? It's cute, but, err, weird.

Just thought I would add, he's always done little jumping things like that, and thus I've named his Cricket.

One of my parents' cats does that. No matter what door you open in the house he always hops over "the line". Perhaps they think there is an invisible wall of some kind that they must jump over toward freedom.

Ha! My kitty does that, too! Any time I fianlly allow her into whatever space has been denied for a while (the bathroom, the linen closet, etc.), she pops up and then dashes forward, just like your kitty!
I've seen other cats do it, so it's not that weird!

When our cats (especially kittens ), do this, we call it "hobby-horsin". They are so cute when they do this! Your kitty may have jumped for joy to get outside, if he is a house cat, he'll jump for joy to get back inside.lol

If its hot outside he knows the ground is going to burn his feet until he gets into the grass or shade. This is his way of preparing himself for it.

My cat has a spring in his step when he is let out. He thinks that he's tinkerbell.
