Some of them probably do it for shock value or because they think it will make them "cool" or rebellious (bad reason).
Some of them probably do it because they think it means they can cast spells on people and curse them (bad reason).
Some of them probably do it because they think it's like what they see on "Charmed" or in "The Craft" or on "Buffy" (bad reason).
Some of them probably do it because the path calls to them and they feel a connection to an earth-based path (good reason).

1. (don't mean to start anything) but for those of you saying that the devil has something to do with it, get you're religions straight...people who worship the devil are satanists, not Wiccans...2. as far as converting to Wicca, some people(not just teens) don't feel the bible is for them...I'm not saying god isn't...wicca is just another form of believing in a higher power...like god...It's also an earth based religion that teaches and preaches respect for nature and mother earth(or the goddess)...we have nothing against other religions...I know a few wiccans who still believe in the virgin Mary...like I said before its just another way of believing in a higher power, and at times or in some cases wiccans don't even use spells....

Most teens that do are teenage girls. Wicca is a very free religion and is also very feminist. It deals with energies and is just plain freaking funner to cast spells than to sit in a musty church listening to how we're all sinners going to hell. With Wicca, you feel very spiritual and it is easier to express yourself.
It also offers a way to be unique and different and to celebrate femininity. It's a beautiful religion.

It could be rebellion, but in many cases, it is because the religion is appealing to them. To girls, a factor seems to be the respect Wicca has for women and femininity. What a nice change to see Goddesses worshipped and priestesses in charge! For both genders, there is the idea that they can change their world, that teenage attitude that questions everything, and respect for nature.

for some it's a phase, they want to feel that they are in control of something in thier life and this is something that they can do completely on their own.
I'm a teacher and had a student heavy into wicca 2 years ago. this past year she kind of moved away from it. no big deal, it's a personal choice anyways.

We are in the information age. Teenagers are searching for their own identity. Part of that might be searching for their own religion. Wicca is about empowerment and intellligent thought about religion.
Many people, teens and adults agree with the concept of God and Goddess. They also agree with the inclusiveness of them and nature.

May be they were bored by the Christian church / Bible and couldn't find answers regarding the screwed up world / lives they have to face?
WICCA in a way offer a chance to control their world via spells, rituals and self disciplines. so they took that chance and step into a mysterious realm of unknown. How's that for faith?

It's not just teens. Anyway, as we enter our later teenage years that's when we start to want to define ourselves as individuals and develop our own path through life. So, teenagers are most likely to question and even change religions (probably a few times, but won't always publicly announce the change) until they figure out what they really believe.

It's a big trend like cutting, being Goth having a MySpace etc...
well also the people of the last 2-3 generations are the most unchurched generation in the history of the US and Europe. They are VERY SPIRITUALLY HUNGRY and are so starved that they will get involved in the first thing they hear about. Especially if it's big on TV or movies.

Wicca "seems" appealing because it presents itself as the Utopian Religion...
that, and it probably annoys most parents...
The TERM "Witch" typically sets people's reactions to "FREAK!"
Teens like to do that to parents...
Also, I think some teens genuinely believe it's the answer to Spirituality...(as misguided as it may be)

I don't think that it is just teens. I think that a lot of people are just converting to the old ways of nature worshipping and appreciating the gods/goddesses that have been forgotten.
