I am looking at a vehicle at a "dealer" that buys wrecked vehicles and makes the repairs to resale the car. I am looking to trade my current vehicle for another car w/ better gas mileage, and this particular place has a car that would meet my need. I don't have $ to buy a new one and the owner said he would do a title for title trade with me. He said he would put in writing that if I am not completely satisfied w/ the car that either they would do whatever needed to be done to meet my need, or the trade would not take place. Everyone is telling me it's a bad idea, anyone with an opinion? I just want to be safe!! I have 2 young daughters, and I do travel a lot.

Sounds very shady to me!The whole point of a salvage title is so there will be some kind of paper work to show that the car belongs to a junk yard and is a completely junk vehicle, and I'm not sure you can even get license plates or registration on a salvage title because it is supposed to either be destroyed or sitting undriveable in a junk yard, or being sold for parts NOT for being sold to people to drive!!!! I sure wouldn't buy ANYTHING from these people! I think they are trying to take complete advantage of you and your situation!!Men car sales people or mechanics do that to women a lot you know!!Save up your money as best as you can and have a man with you next time you go car shopping and it won't be so easy for them to trick you into buying junk next time!!!

I agree with the majority, avoid vehicles with salvage titles like the plague, those vehicles were wrecked beyond being repairable and will never be right again no matter how well they were fixed plus you will probably end up chasing endless problems.Another thing most if not all insurance companies WILL NOT write a policy on a vehicle with a salvage title. If funds are tight look into "factory certified" used vehicles they are checked over by the manufacturer from top to bottom and front to back and it will either have the remainder of the factory warranty or a special warranty just for the certified status vehicles, and they are reasonably priced.

Never buy a car with a salvage title. Means it's been totalled. There is a chance that depending on the extent of the damage it can be fixed and driven. But it's a big risk. I bought one once and ended up losing all my money on it because it was so screwed up.

NEVER buy salvage. I once bought a 1991 honda accord salvage title...Actually I wasn't told it was salvaged, but a couple weeks later the problems began and weird ones too! I took it too a body shop and they showed me how the car was actually welded together, because it was actually split in to two from an accident! I took it back (private sale) and got most of my money back, but not without a fight!

most of my vehicles had salvage titile i always took mine to a well known mechanic and had them check everything out and make sure the frame wasn't bent.a good dealer should have everything wrote down that has been done to the car.what would be my first worry is that a dealer usually won't swap title for title unless they make some money.

If you have kids and travel alot do not buy a car that has been wrecked and repaired. Trust me they are never the same and you have no way of knowing how badly it was wrecked.

Take the car you are going to get to a shop and have em inspect it. Make sure all the" 'Tee's' are crossed and the 'I''s" dotted "on your contract a lot of those used car guys are 'shifty'...........(BTW if he is trading even it must be a good deal for HIM!)
