also my bf will be doing the work on it and i am getting one from the junk yard thanks for the advice

It doesn't matter what you do when it comes to the Taurus trannys. They are bad old or new. The biggest mistakes Ford ever put out. I know, been there done that. Spend the money and save the hard work and drive something else. Anything else.

I owned a Taurus and the Trans cost me $1800.00 to repair and lasted only 11 months before it died again. I hate to say it but your car is not worth fixing I work in the auto industry My advice is to go find another car even a used trans. from a junk yard will cost you about $800.00 plus labor to put it in it's just not worth it. Try an ATSG Repair manual. he can have the book out in the garage with him while he works on it. Very useful.

Engine has to be held up with special tools, while the subframe is removed, to remove the transmission
