It's not ok. I, too, refuse to fight in wars for any country because I know that I would be killing my brothers and sisters in the faith if I did so. I am Christian, but I do not follow the bigotry of many who claim to be Christian. They are willing to break rules of God when a man tells them it's ok because it's for our country. Or that God would want it that way. This is why separation of church and state isn't going so well. Many church leaders are so caught up politics and vice versa. It's like hand in hand for them.

Sorry to say there are four beliefs mostly. Jew, Christians, Muslim, and nonbelievers. "Thou shall not kill" it says a lot in the Bible and that is true...it breaks the comandments and sadly people think of the ten comandments as guide-lines. "War is O.K. to fight in" it says "but not for thou's selfish reasons." Everything is war everyday such as disicisions. Wether you kill for you or for God matters most. it is not that people don't follow the first comandment but that people don't follow our Lord and Savior: Jesus Christ and God ( Them being the same people of course.)

calling agnostics' intelligence into question? dude, you tried "christian' wrong BOTH times-same thing with 'commandments'...and please explain 'explane'...is english a second language for you? shall we take your 'logic' another step? do you eat anything? then it must have been killed, or you are eating it live, in which case the act of eating makes you a killer...now, i can understand your stand on never fighting in a war, and that is an admirable stand to take...if we were attacked, and your country, or your state, or county, or town, or neighborhood, or family, were attacked...would you be able to stand by, allow it to happen, allow someone ELSE to do the fighting and the dying for you (the dick cheney approach) while you enjoyed your little life, or turn your back and allow someone ELSE to do the fighting and they dying for you( the bill clinton approach), or would you stand up, defend what you hold dear, and maybe protect your own by ,yes, killing someone else? i hold no malice toward anyone...but i do know what i would do...with a clear conscience...Christ told me to turn the other cheek when someone slaps me-HE never told me to let someone slap my family around...

Sometimes its necessary to kill. The commandment says "thou shalt not murder", not kill, and theres a big difference. Sadaam killed entire villages to try out his newest gas, the people in the Congo are being slaughtered and I don't suppose you've heard of the holocaust? If we hadn't gone in fighting, and killing, would there be any Jews left? Sometimes sitting on your butt telling the world how horrible they are to interfere is just as evil as committing murder yourself. I'd rather die fighting to save innocent lives than to pretend I'm morally superior by sitting on my butt complaining. I guess that's the difference in atheists/agnostics compared to people with religious beliefs. We know there are things worth dying over and you guys haven't figured that out.

Probably because Paul and Peter said that the Emperor (I.E.: the government) had the right to use force to enforce justice.

This idea was expounded upon by Augustine of Hippo [Saint Augustine]

I sorry if you do not agree with Christian morality, but since you do not believe in God (as you said), and since you do not come to church at all, with all due respect, why should we care about how you interpret our Bible (which you do not believe in), or what you consider to be moral?

You apparently don't care about what we preach, or what Jesus taught, so why should we let you tell us what to believe?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Just war" refers to the concept of warfare as being justified, typically in accordance with a particular situation, or scenario, and expanded or supported by reference to doctrine, politics, tradition, or historical commentary. Distinctions include:

1) the Just War tradition - is a philosophical "method" for determining whether a war can be justified from a moral standpoint and a tradition going back at least to Augustine of Hippo.

2) Just War theory - on the recent political doctrines reinterpreting the concept of "Just war" as a justification for military aggression and imperialism.

and because you're spoiled milktoast who clearly never felt threatened, you have no idea that some people kill others to protect their own. Willing to wager that no one you know or love died on 9/11 simply because they went to work that day.
So if you found out that someone was coming to kill your family, I guess you'd just open the door for them? Give them a cup of tea before they laid slaughter to your blood kin? Fact is, the animals we're up against aren't afraid of death because they don't value human life (which is why they send pregnant women and toddlers strapped with bombs into public areas). If anything, seems we're doing a favor--taking out the baddies who have a STATED GOAL of dominating the West with IslamoFascism to protect ourselves, and since they don't mind dyin so much, they get their martyrdom. Seems like everyone wins to me!

clearly you have never had someone trying to kill YOU or your family before. I think you would be surprised what you are capable of.
Justice is an attribute of God and part of his character. defending the innocent is a part of justice and therefore we are certainly within Christian moral parameters to defend ourselves. In fact, God is referred to as the defender of the innocent several times in the bible. and God commanded that kind of justice from his people:
11 But if a man hates his neighbor and lies in wait for him, assaults and kills him, and then flees to one of these cities, 12 the elders of his town shall send for him, bring him back from the city, and hand him over to the avenger of blood to die. 13 Show him no pity. You must purge from Israel the guilt of shedding innocent blood, so that it may go well with you.
Deuteronomy 19: 11-13
Here is the alternative to killing: Being killed. You choose.

yes i find it ammusing, the religions of peace have so much war. I am an atheist, In many situations I would rather die than kill others. Though I would defend myself, however, when it comes to war......I wouldnt know who is liying. So I would have to seek evidence. Maybe thats the answer. the followers of the religions of peace........ dont require any evidence. have FAITH they would say.
I have higher morals than these religeouse people.
also.not murdering is not the 1st commandment, I think its the 5th commandment.

First of all....a soldier serving in his military fighting an armed conflict is not in the same catagory as Murder.

And also much to your dismay, I'm sure, I have read the Koran. Nothing in it about the 10 Commandments. You have been mis-informed.

Final note....I often call ALL of Humanity's morals into question.

Christians are individual people, not groups of people. I felt like you. I was an agnostic. Now I look for "true hearted " christians. There are not so many. But God only needs a few good men. He started with 12, remember.
