Yes more than likely, I dealt with really bad teeth for years. I was too scared to do anything about it. I just got all my teeth out on July 7th. What an ordeal that was. I was knocked out thankfully.
But I would call your dentist and be seen. It probably is an infection and would put you on an antibiotic. Til its clears up and if it persists, he or she will probably take it out.
I hope this helps you. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me.

You didn't mention anything about PAIN, but go & get some maximum strength Ambesol or numbz-it or anything else that is MAXIMUM strength, just in case the pain hits you. I have had this problem in the past & when I could not get to a dentist, I would boil water, add salt, then add cool water until I could just barely stand the hottest temperature possible & them start to rinse & spit until I could feel the swollen area POP or felt a slight RELIEF in the tightness of my gums. I would then take a needle & sterilize it & pierce by gum at the tooth line to drain the puss that was under the gum. Afterward, rinse again in the salt & hot water mixture, then a final rinse with some hydrogen peroxide, then rinse with clear warm water & this should solve the problem. (Be careful not to swallow any Peroxide) If you have health problems, I wouldn't recommend doing this on yourself. I have had sooo much surgery on my mouth that I know my limits. I advise this only in extreme emergencies when you cannot get to a dentist or a doctor for help.

An abscess in the mouth is very dangerous. The infection is what is causing the swelling, your body is basically trying to push the poison out of your body. I hope that you are headed for the dentists office and fast. Oral infections can be very difficult to control and can spread through your body and wreck havoc on your immune system in a manner of days. Do not wait, you need to have a qualified oral surgeon work on you immediately. I don't know what led to this problem; but if it was poor dental hygiene, you had better work on the brushing and flossing routine and really take care of your teeth and mouth. Good luck, get to the oral surgeons office asap. Have a good night!!

yup sounds definitely like an abscess to me! Get to the dentist or an ER, get some antibiotics follow the exact prescription and for God's sake get that tooth fixed! It takes no more freezing than a filling does! If you wait, the infection WILL spread!

It sounds like an abscess, you need to see your dentist for some antibiotics, you might need root treatment. If its painful take some ibuprofen to ease the pain you can take them with the antibiotics. But you must finish the course.

You've got an infection. Get to the dentist before it spreads to other parts of your gum or jaw.

it can't be abcessed if the tooth is visible; you may have an infection at the root of your tooth though
