I was diagnosed with depression over a year ago. I'm taking Prozac (fluexitine capsules) they seem to work for me. They just calm you down and alter your state of mind. Good Luck with that though!

I have been there, had absolutley no idea I was going down that awful road until I began losing my hair and getting panic attacks. In the end I was bed ridden thinking I was dying. Dramatic, but thats how it swallows you up. However, a few doctor visits later, and a full check up to prove to myself I wasnt dying. I was prescribed anti-depressants. Once on these for a couple of weeks (thats how long it takes before they start working) I was able to get up and start functioning. My nearest and dearest made me go for walks (which I love now) this releases the seretonin in your body this chemical releases all the good feelings once they get going they kick **** out of the bad feelings.

I was on the anti-depressants for 6 months, I had no problems coming off of them, these days they are not addictive.

I also had an excellent doctor who had time to hear me out and then teased out of me why I was depressed in the first place. I was strong enough to do something about it small changes here and there and the realisation that I am not superwoman and its ok to say no now and then.

Get yourself to the Doctors, it doesnt go away without support of some shape or form. If you cant face the Doctors or talking to anyone then pop to the chemist and get St Johns Wart - it's herbal and excellent for good feeling. Also Rescue Remedy is superb for that awful panicy feeling.
Good luck.

Depression is common.

I've been telling alot of depressed people this...
1. Go out and treat yourself to your fav. dessert
2. Go hang with your best friends (like at a theme park or somewhere extra fun!)
3. Think about the positive things about yourself, even if it's a weird trait, habit, or whatever. Maybe you are really funny or you are a great artist, or you're a video game junkie.
4. Think about everything, EVERYTHING that you love about life. God placed you on this earth for a reason and it's not for you to suffer. Find out why you are here. Make the best of life, do your best. GOD LOVES YOU!!! That's true medication for the depressed if you ask me.

If this is just a short term temporary condition due to some event, it will pass with the the help of chatting to good and trusted friends, some time to yourself, some good exercise and generally waiting for "time to heal"..
If it is a long term condition with no obvious anticedent event, then it is very important that you speak to your trusted Medical Practitioner.
Do not get distracted by "touchy-feely-wankery", unless as a minor supplement to CORRECT medical treatment.
Do not try and medicate/treat yourself with an excess of alcohol, tobacco, controlled drugs, food, danger, sex, etc that many turn to in this condition.
Always remember that treatment takes time to take effect. Approx 2-4 weeks to notice a difference.
Hope this helps you.

i got to a therapist once a week though im not sure if its helping much. i also take a medication in which the active ingredient is fluoxetine. this helped at the beginnign a lot (i started it 2 1/2months ago) but now although im not nearly as depressed as i used to be, i am still depressed and i feel the symptoms way too often. im just scared to call my psychiatrist b/c i dont want to have to change medication or be told its more serious than i thought.

sorry for rambling on like this but...

Prozac was the wonder drug for me. I was depressed as hell. but just functioning enough to not lose everything (I was still going to work, but it was only a matter of time before someone noticed I was aactually doing anything all day).

Prozac made me content, rather than loudly happy, and able to focus on things I'd wanted to do but been too scared or sad to. Right down to little things like being able to wrap a birthday present.

The down side is it has left me a prescription drug junkie. I came off prozac after 8 months as a side effect was intense pain after eating. I came off no problems and with no side effects. The trouble for me is that nothing is as good as life on prozac.

Everytime the depression hits I buy new anti-depressants (or get them prescribed), but none have been as amazing as Prozac. In fect the rest of them have been agony to settle on to. Seroxat hurt so much it made me suicidal!

I've gone back to prozac a few times, but never got that fantastic feeling from it again. So I live my life waiting for the next SSRI to come along.

I must say that I don't regret taking Prozac, it was the greatest time of my life. But like any junkie I live in constant search of something as good as that first hit.

Good luck and know that even strangers care about you.

I took Zoloft for awhile for my temper, anxiety, depression, etc. and it worked ok. I stopped taking it - I notice that I get agitated very easily, but I don't feel as drowsy anymore. You will only act or think the way you allow yourself too, but some people do have something wrong in a part of their brains. Talk to your doctor and get a second opinion. And remember that most of the medicines for depression out now claim they can cause suicide or thoughts about it.

Hi there...

I too have been where you are, i had it really bad in fact! I found meds made me worse at the time, so i ditched the lot. I had a OT(occupational therapist) at the time that my Doc had reffered me to, and he got me involved with my local mental health team. They encouraged me to do some exorcise, and do things that I hadn't done in ages, to give me that "feel good factor"! Even if its a walk to the shops, or a park (i was totaly negative and had no enthusiasm). After a short while i found myself improving, i wasn't better, but i had changed my out look on things.... Hope this helps...

Meditation and Yoga is a good way for you to ease depression, both mentally and bodily.

It helped me. A lot. Try Yoga & Meditation from the MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT series. A very good book. Published by Geddes & Grosset.

I used to feel this way and i went to see a psychologist and it turned out that my mood was based on negative thoughts and beliefs about myself and situations that werent true. I didnt think talking things through would help but it really does. Maybe you should talk the way your feeling through with someone and see how it goes. Good Luck.
