If you're a healthy person and it's a cold (URI), it will run its course in a week or so.
Since URIs are caused by viruses, there is no cure. Going to a doctor isn't going to speed the course up, and there isn't an "antibiotic" they can give you for a viral cold. Your immune system will take care of it in a few days time.
You should see a doctor if any of the following occur:
1. A cold that doesn't show any signs of improvement in 2 weeks or one that progressively gets worse.
2. fever over 101 that doesn't respond to tylenol/advil, increased fluids, and body cooling methods--uncovering/no blankets. (if it comes down even half a degree, it's responding).
3. Difficulty breathing
4. Productive cough with green phlegm that keeps you awake at night.
Allergy symptoms include:
nasal congestion
sneezing
runny nose (rhinorrhea)
itchy, red, watery eyes
If you think it's allergies, you can talk to your doctor about treatment.

First of all, see a doctor. It does not sound like you have an allergy or a cold; the symptoms sound much to severe. However, we here on Answers will never be able to analyze your case accurately or prescribe you anything to help. You must see a doctor to properly treat whatever you have.
Usually, when allergies lead to infections and viruses, the symptoms begin in the nasal passages or eustachian tubes; this sounds different. Definitely see a doctor about this. You should see your allergist at a different time to take care of your allergies.
As for your allergy problem, I used to have very severe allergies growing up. I mean severe. Every spring and fall, I would wake up many, many times every night suffocating because my nose and throat would become so plugged up. During the days, I would still not be able to breath at all, and my ears would remain clogged all day, which became very painful at times. I used many allergy medicines, but few worked. Eventually, my mom read some health article about allergies and we followed what it said. By doing this, I have never experienced any allergy problems since. This is what we did:
First of all, I stopped using any dairy products. I switched to soy, but there was also rice, goat, almond, and many more options as well. Then I stopped using wheat products whenever possible. Lastly, I began to have some natural wild honey from the area where I lived everyday. By combining these three treatments with taking my normal allergy medicines (which included dead sea salt nasal washes, pills, and nasal steriods), I have never battled with allergies again.
This treatment really does work, and I am now able to eat dairy and wheat products from time to time. You should try it.

Generally an allergy does not give you a fever. If it's a cold there's nothing the doctor can do for you anyway. Vitamin C, tea, chicken soup and echinacea will help, not much else aside from bed rest.
If it lasts, it might be an allergy - the new ones pop up all the time.

probably a cold and not allergies. if you are using a nasal decongestant for your allergies, it might be giving you the sore throat because the medicine may be irritating your throat. a low grade fever usually means your body is fighting off something, so you could have a cold. if you start to feel achy, you might have the flu.

You should try to go the the one that gives you a better diagnosis and usually resloves the issue for you. Which one do you trust more, or is more reliable as far as giving you a good resolution to your situation...??
Since it started with an allergy and now it's down your chest, then you should see your doctor....especially if you feel that your allergy is done.

Sounds like it could be strep throat, and maybe bronchitis. A fever is not allergy related. It is either bacterial or viral

i have the same problem. you should be familiar with the symptoms since this ailment is recurring. these days there are a lot of modern medicines that can relieve you when it attacks. learn about it and always keep the medicines ready so you can save from repeated visits to the doctor. but you should see one if the condition gets worse.
