Family members think that one of my parents may be getting poisoned by their spouse. They have an onset of vision problems, slurred speech, and muscle weakness. This has been going on for about 2 months and ALL the tests the doctors are doing shows nothing being wrong. A test has not been done for poisoning yet. Do you think we are all over reacting??? Thanks

It might be worth talking to the doctor about doing a tox screen, using the word poisioning might not be well received. You don't give an age for wither of the involved parties. But you could mention things like vision problems making it difficult for them to read what they have, improper storage of chemicals....you know anything to make the doctor think that such a test would be worth it.

You know doc, I say insecticides in the kitchen, expired medications.

I would stay away from the attempted murder thing though, at least initially.

No, goodness no! You're not over reacting. Those are serious symptoms, and you should do everything in your power to make sure that this person is helped and tested for poisoning.

Meanwhile, though, don't suspect that it is someone who is doing it. Poisoning can come from the water, medicine, and even foods (i.e. food poisoning). Still, though, they need testing done as soon as possible.

I hope everything goes well. Here's to their health and hoping that everything can be solved quickly and smoothly!

Is there anyone else living in the house besides both your parents? If just one parent is getting sick I'd keep a watchful eye. You can pluck a few strands of hair off the parent's head and had a lab analyze it for poisons.

Change doctors and see how the person suspected of doing the poisoning reacts.

They have stories like this on news shows all the time. I just watched one about anti-freeze. What about arsenic.

Anything is possible these days... Is her spouse weird? Is he controlling or abusive?
