There are laws which you must adhere to if you're a landowner:-

If you want to build another house/garage on your land you must get planning permission. If you don't you can legally be forced to pull it down - even if there is someone living there - at your expense.

If the land is seen as agricultural land, then you must keep animals or grow crops on it - a few weeks there was this child you is really good at show jumping (she iss good enough to be considered for the British Equestrian Team when she is older), so her parents erected some proper jumps on one of their fields so she could practice. Some busy body from the Council threaten to take the family to court, as it was supposed to be a 'agriculturial' field. The parents just bought a few sheep, stuck them out in the field with the show jumps, end of problem.

If a footpath tuns through your land it is illegal to block it off. To remove it, you have to get it 'officially' diverted, this can be done by contacting the local council.

Depends on what the land is registered for - agricultural land etc cannot have a house built on it without special permission. This is a good question because if we had freedom to build on any land we owned it would solve our housing problem as the prices would crash but we would end up with no countryside? Take your pick?

It depends on where your property is. If in a Subdivision you must adhere to the subdivision restrictions. City and county restrictions. You can find all this out from your local county registrar office or courthouse.

There are so many laws depending on where the land is, its zoning and plenty more, I can only assume you are in an argument that you are bound to lose through ignorance.
