It is ok to be afraid of the dark ... but when your mummy is there absolutely nothing can happen ... you need to rest your eyes so they wont be sore and tired in the morning ... otherwise they will be too tired to play!
there are some very special teddy bears you can buy at the shop that will sleep next to you all night long... they never close there eyes and will always protect you ...
validate his fears dont brush them off... and tell him you will come and check on him every five minutes... slowly increase this time... the quicker you pull away the harder it will be for him to let go of his fears
he will grow out of it soon....

I'm an adult and I am uneasy in the dark because of a balance problem. My advice is to let him have the overhead light on, eventually he will fall asleep even with it on. It lights up all the corners and shadows, making it seem like daylight. Hang on young man, you will outgrow it, but in the meantime, leave the light on and maybe your mom or dad can turn it out late in the night when you have fallen asleep.
But you have to promise, if the light is on, that you will not play, or anything and will really really try to sleep.

Ask him what he is really afrid of. I remember when I was his age I would never get out of bed because I was afraid the boggie man was going to take me under my bed because I thought he only came at night. So one night I had to go to the bathroom. So I got up and I relized that I got up without thinking of the monster. So I looked under my bed and nothing was there. tell him this story it might make him feel good. Or you can try this...laying next to him in the dark til he falls asleep. hope this helps

i'm no psychology expert, yet one subject that is composed of ideas in case you have the ingredients is probable speaking to a family member or an excellent chum as you circulate to sleep. That way, you have something to coax you down whilst having all your lights fixtures off, and a stable possibility which you will sense safeguard. in case you do not sense this might paintings, i might see/call, or get suggestion from a chum who has a greater physically powerful interest or wisdom in psychology and see in the event that they have any greater advantageous suggestion. The techniques i comprehend i've got conquer fears (curler coasters, heights, etc.) is having quite stable acquaintances top beside me and telling myself, you comprehend what, it quite is not that undesirable and that i can try this, be happier when I do it, and it quite is exciting to myself to have finally accomplished it.

Try turning the light off for 5 minutes, then turn it back on. Next
time turn light off for 15 min.,then turn light on. Turn light off for
30 min. then turn light on. You keep leaving the light off as long
as you can b4 turning it back on. You'll get used to the dark. I
painted mini stars on my kids ceiling in glow in the dark neon
paint. They loved counting stars & forgot the only way to see
them was to turn off the light. You can use other stuff.
