HELP...should a notify the police of possible child abuse?
It disturbs ME to see it once the child is past a certain age. I do think it borders on incest or abuse after awhile. At a past job, I walked into the bathroom where my co-worker was breastfeeding her son. I was horrified, but I covered my reaction and asked gently, "How old is your son?" The boy stopped sucking, looked at me and said, "I'm six!", and went back to it. If they can walk up to their "meal" and just stand their to receive it, something's wrong. Especially if they already have all of their childhood teeth and are in school.
NOTE : IF YOU LIVE IN 3RD WORLD COUNTRY THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE YOU.......................MOTH... HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO BREASTFEED CASE THERE IS NO OTHER FOOD.

Admittedly, there are villiages where women will breastfeed up to 12 years of age, but as you mentioned, that's a completely different circumstance. I don't think child services will do anything about it. You could try reporting the incident to the authorities and they might check her stability and what the kid is getting at home besides breastmilk, but if things look alright besides the fact that the kid is still getting milk from the source, I don't think anything else will happen. After all, most sources say that breastfeeding as long as you can is healthy. Though most kids will wean themselves so long as they have other options, which is probably the only thing that -really- worries me.

If you were to report that woman for child abuse, you probably won't get too far. Women are allowed to breastfeed their children and there really is no way a law could be passed as to how old the child has to be weaned by. Breast milk is the best food anyone can have, so as long as both the mom and child are comfortable doing it, there's really no reason to try to stop. It's not incestual or any type of child molestation; breasts are meant to feed milk to a mother's child.

Um, your story sounds a bit strange. What is your co-worker doing bringing her 6 year old child to work? Most mother's who breast feed are normally very conscious of where they feed their children. So if your co-worker was really breast feeding her son in a woman's bathroom at work, I think there are more issues that you can approach HR with. Otherwise, if you really feel strongly about the situation speak to a social worker or your local Department of Family and Child Sevices.

Bobby, I will have you know that I breastfed my son until he was 3 1/2 years old!! he still remembers too! But, even I would say six is a bit too old! It's not child abuse though, just a mom who is taking alot longer to cut the cord!

I breastfed all three of my children. They weaned themselves by biting! I would have breastfed the last until at least a year. Is it wrong not to stop? That's a personal call, if it does not present a problem to either the mother or child, that's their choice. Child abuse? no

You should stay out of this. The mother has a right to breastfeed as long as she wants to. They could be some type of medical reason she is still doing this.

I doubt it's child abuse, but it is pretty gross at that age. To each their own, I guess. I would stay out of it.
