measure your food! It is not about diet food or any of that...make sure you are feeding a good quality diet (I like Nature's Variety because it is biocoated with vitamins and minerals lost during the kibble-making process).
Just start out with an amount to start feeding your dog (can look on the side of bag for start) - the better the food the less you will have to feed for the dog. I split that total amount into two - so my dogs eat morning and night.
You can then make adjustments to the total after a few weeks when you can tell if you need to reduce it further/add a little more. Dogs and cats should loose weight gradually.
Your dog can also have treats! If you give a treat in the day - just feed less food later...just like people, it is all about the portion size. Don't forget the regular exercise!

Lots of walks. They make doggy backpacks that a dog can wear and you can put things in the side like bottled waters or something to add weight and exercise them better. Feed a high protein dog food, not the cheap stuff....but not the most expensive either.....or there's science diet for dogs also.

Feed the dog a measured portion of food and only that food and no treats and no table scraps.
Try to incerase his exercise but the biggest thing is cut back on the food.
If you measue out the food and feed him only that and nothing else and I mean nothing he will loose weight pretty quickly and easily.
I took 20 pounds off a dog in about 3 months.

Follow the recommended food needs for you dogs breed. Also if your dog is heavily overweight you can put them on diet dog food especially designed for overweight dogs to help them lose weight. But most importantly you need to exercise your dog. Take them on regular walks and maybe at some point take your dog running.

Go to your local Vet. There are dietary foods that you can buy to help with the dog's weight. Walk the dog regularly. Limit it's food portions as recommended on the bag of food.

Go on lots of walks, ask your vet what dog food would be best for your dog. Also, no table scraps. Maybe there is a medical reason for the gain. Good luck!
