There are millions of Gods...why not make things easier and give the Christian God a name?
How about Phill, or....Patrick or something.
It is so selfish of Christians to just say "God" because they are saying their God is the only God, not being respectful of other's beliefs.
Many people worship different Gods.
We need a name for the Christian God.
Any ideas?

God is a title, just as lord, king, rabbi, mr. or mrs. In my reading and understanding of the bible, Gods name is Jehovah. His son, our Lord and Savior (two titles) is Jesus Christ. In the Bible, the devil is referred to as a god. The devils name is Satan. (Hmm, I wonder if that is where the term Santa came from) So now that this is out of the way, lets give you a new name. I am sure that someone can come up with a name just for you.

The God of the Bible actually has anywhere between 12 and several hundred names, depending on how exclusively you define the word "name".
The reason he has so many names is because each name is a description of a different facet of his character, which is vast beyond compare.

Several of the most important Hebrew names and their translations are:

Yahweh or Jehovah (the pronunciation is uncertain) -- Comes from a verb which means “to exist, be.” This, plus its usage, shows that this name stresses God as the independent and self-existent God of revelation and redemption. This is the ultimate name by which God calls himself when Moses confronts him on the matter at the burning bush.

Adonai-Jehovah -- The Lord our Sovereign
El-Elyon -- The Lord Most High
El-Olam -- The Everlasting God
El-Shaddai -- The God Who is Sufficient for the Needs of His People
Jehovah-Elohim -- The Eternal Creator
Jehovah-Jireh -- The Lord our Provider
Jehovah-Nissi -- The Lord our Banner
Jehovah-Ropheka -- The Lord our Healer
Jehovah-Shalom -- The Lord our Peace
Jehovah-Tsidkenu -- The Lord our Righteousness
Jehovah-Mekaddishkem -- The Lord our Sanctifier
Jehovah-Sabaoth -- The Lord of Hosts
Jehovah-Shammah -- The Lord is Present
Jehovah-Rohi -- The Lord our Shepherd
Jehovah-Hoseenu -- The Lord our Maker
Jehovah-Eloheenu -- The Lord our God
Emmanuel or Immanuel -- God with us

There are literally hundreds of other names and descriptions for God. I believe the main reason that we usually refer to God simply as "God" is because those who translated the Bible considered the names of God to be so holy that they did not even dare to write them... and they are therefore translated to such things as LORD, Lord, God, the Lord God, the LORD God and so on, for different names.

Take your pick.

God is dog spelled backwards, however the reason it is a generic name is that Christian's believe in one god as do the Jews which Christianity and the Muslim Religion evolved from. If you look at religion as a whole you can trace it roots. Here is a good ref and as it says it is over simplified. I cannot remember where Mohammad got the name Allah, but do know that the common thread of splitting from one faith to anther is usually due to corruption of the official powers of that particular time period, but not always. So if Patrick works for you... so be it as I believe that people in general are born with some kind of sense of right and wrong, perhaps or perhaps not from that verse about man being in the image of god. You decide.

GOD’S NAME

The Massorah has a rubric calling attention to these first 4 acrostics. This locks in the name of God according to Hebrew and Biblical scholars. The name also being spelled backwards for Divine reasons, a subject for another time.

Est.1:20 And when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.
( shall give to their husbands honour both to great and small ) Hebrew ( Hi Vekal Hannashim Yittenu ) HVHY

Est.5:4 And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him.
( let the king and Haman come this day ) Hebrew ( Yabo Hammelek Vehaman Hayyom ) YHVH

Est.5:13 Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.
( this availeth me nothing ) Hebrew ( zeH eynennV shoveH leY ) HVHY

Est.7:7 And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
( that there was evil determined against him ) Hebrew ( kY kalethaH elayV haraaH ) YHVH

Also a 5th acrostic of “ I am”, ( I am that I am ) Hebrew ( ehyeh asher ehyeh ) Exo.3:14
Est.7:5 Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so?
( Who is he, and where is he ) Hebrew ( huE zeH veeY zeH ) EHYH “I am”

The Massorah has a special rubric calling attention this acroustic.
Psa.96:11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
Hebrew ( Yismehu Hashshamayim Vethagel Haarez ) YHVH

I think for English-speakers, Jehovah is the most sensible name for the Christian God. The Jewish Bible, or "Old Testament" says that God's name is Yahweh. In English, this sometimes gets written and pronounced as Jehovah. I think "Jehovah" may be more familiar to most people than Yahweh. So that's my vote. And you have a good point, because it does seem strange for God not to have some name. But then again, we don't usually call our fathers by their names. We say, "Dad." And the Christian God is very much a father figure, so perhaps this is why He is not often called by His name.

There are many names given to the Lord in scripture; and you can refer to Him in different ways depending on the situation.

Jehovah-Jireh (The Lord will Provide) Genesis 22:13,14
Jehovah-Rapha (The Lord that Heals) Exodus 15:26
Jehovah-Nissi (The Lord our Banner)Exodus17:8-15
Jehovah-M'Kaddesh (The Lord that makes us Holy)Leviticus 20:7
Jehovah-Shalom (The Lord our Peace) Judges 6:24
Jehovah-Rohi (The Lord our Shepard) Psalm 23:1
Jehovah-Tsidkenu (The Lord our Righteousness) Jeremiah 23:6
Jehovah-Shammah (The Lord is There) Ezekiel 48:35
Adonia (Holy God) Isaiah 6
El Shaddai (God Almighty) Genesis 17:1

These are some that I have read in my Bible and try to use while witnessing, worshiping, and praying. He loves to be reminded of who and what He is to you. God Bless!

He's got a lot more manes than anyone... Read the Bible ... God is referred to in many ways... but it's the same God.. The concept of God started with him, that's why other gods, have certain names, to differenciate them from God... if you like to call him "of Christianity" fine, but he's God of everyone, and everything, whether you worship him or not... That's why he's just GOD...
Kinda like with counterfit money .. money is valid when authentic.. fake money -- no value.. you can call it whatever.. no problem... it still doesn't have any value... get the picture?

God's highest and most sacred name is Yahweh. (the proper name of God in the Old Testament; hence the Jews called it the name by excellence, the great name, the only name, the glorious and terrible name, the hidden and mysterious name, the name of the substance, the proper name, and most frequently shem hammephorash, i.e. the explicit or the separated name, though the precise meaning of this last expression is a matter of discussion. )

How about HE WHO IS ALL. Or HAL for short. I have a million names. Daughter/sister/friend/Aunt/Cousin, etc etc etc. I ALWAYS know though, for some strange reason, when I am being talked to no matter what name is currently being used. Shame on all people for thinking that the Creator of all, is different. I am sure when a man's heart is breaking and he reaching out his heart in whatever prayer of his native tongue, for help when his child is sick, reaches that same 'Source' we are all apart of. And shame on us for hating peoples in other countries because
our governments have told us to. We are all brothers and sisters and parents don't play favorites, so we are equal and should not hurt each-other.

That is correct about there aer many gods but the Christian God we call God is also called Jehovah. I know you might say thats what Jehovah Witness call him but thats one thing a Baptist have in common with Jehovah Witness we both know him as Jehovah or GOD. God is the father son and the holy ghost. God is not a person he is a spirit. Jesus is flesh like me and you
