Today I was playing with a lock and I rolled the arched part (the part that goes in the hole to lock the lock) over my finger a couple of times. A sharp piece of metal on the lock cut my nail and part of it got lodged underneath the nail. Should I be worried?

If your up to date on your tetnous shot(s) then no, you will be okay just clean out the cut.But if you aren't then you may need to go get one, because rusty metal cuts can cause lockjaw-which is what the name says. Your jaw literally locks & you can't move it even to eat. You only need one every 10 years & if your still in highschool or just out then you likely needed one just to enroll depending on state regulations/public school requirements. Ask your mom, or call your general practitiner DR. ( or u can get shot records from your school if u graduated). Good luck & find out about the shot within the next couple of days-its rare, but serious to get lockjaw. Don't worry though, you'll lilkely be fine & sorry you got hurt, hope it feels better soon.

If I was you I'd go to the Emergency Room and have a doctor take a look at your finger and your nail. There may be metal fragments lodged inside your skin underneath the nail. That could cause problems in the near future. To be on the safe side, show the doctor the lock too and that way he or she will have a better idea as to what kind of materials they are looking for.

Good luck and I hope this was some what helpful!

If this metal piece has lodged just under the skin - it will begin to make its way out soon, painfully. You can only hope it was not dirty or rusted - if it is, tetanus shot and removal of the piece may be the thing to do.

Try and get it out.
It will grow out by itself, however, you are risking infection.
If it swells and becomes infected you will need to clip your nail as far back as neccessary to remove the piece of metal.
Don't worry too much, but keep an eye out for infection.
Also use a disinfectant as often as you think about it.

You should probably check to see if you have had a tetnus shot lately as you should with ALL PUNCTURE wounds.

Also, things STUCK in your body have the potential to fester and cause infection. You should have the metal removed or do it yourself if it is still in you.

Probably, even if you left it in you it would not cause problems. But, you could go to a CLINIC for help or the ER if you want a BIGGER MEDICAL BILL. I suggest that you discuss the possible problem with a LICENSED and EDUCATED doctor to get a better answer.

Don't worry. Unless the metal was very unclean, you shouldn't be worried. Clean it very well with maybe a peroxide and, if you can, take it out with a tweezers, if you can't don't worry, stay calm and have a doctor remove it before it becomes infectious. If it has become red and swollen, quickly go to a doctor, but still stay relaxed.

After that, you should get a Tetnus shot, if you haven't gotten one lately.

You might want to get your tetanus shot if the metal penetrated your skin or in case the metal has that opportunity. Otherwise, you should have it removed by a doctor before it causes an infection.

No, as long as the metal hasn't cut the flesh in your fingernail. I would go to a doctor to get that piece out safely. But to answer your question, don't be worried!

I would have the metal piece removed and make sure that you have had a recent booster shot for your tetanus vaccine. I would be worried enough to have it checked out, go see your doctor.
