If you look at Leviticus, you will see a lot of laws like this. The blood of dead animals is also unclean, and so is a person with an infectious skin disease, for instance. Laws such as these were created with the well-being of the Jewish people in mind. Blood is dangerous (as any medical person can tell you) because it's a prime form of disease transmission. By making menstruating women off-limits, the Hebrews were able to help limit the spread of diseases. I believe that with the advances in hygiene present today, we no longer need this law. Orthodox Jews would disagree, I'm sure, but Progressives wouldn't. In my opinion, we need to look to the purpose of the law, to the spirit of the law, and obey that more strictly than the letter.

"to come near..." is taken to mean have had sex wirh....this is of The Law of Moses and is a moot point for those of The Church today who are under God's Grace through the final sacrifice of Jesus... The jews still aibide by most of these laws... at lest those Jew who still follow the mosaic Law....
Not many women would disagree with that one...and it would take a rather gross individual to force sex upon a woman at that time of the month any way.

You are in error. A just man living out all Levitical codes does not.

the bible says that a woman on her period is unclean (not presentable to god) and shouldn't have sex during this time.

Remember, the old testament (like the Quran) is filled with ancient customs and traditions.
Please don't confuse religion with traditions.
