I call him my "Bionic (sp?) Baby." He is quite a mix, German short-hair pointer & pittbull. Yes, an extremely sharp hunting dog, with a strong & muscular build. Oh, how could I ever forget his large, pitbull head. But, he's a mama's boy!!! I know he is still an animal, not a human, but if he only could respond back, I might question that!!! Can u tell I don't have children??? He is 3 1/2 years, and I adopted him at 8 wks. This is a first! I recognized the change immed. He runs, jumps, and begs like usual, so I waited it out today. It started yesterday morning. I just noticed a bite on his back leg, maybe a reaction to that??? I'm taking him to the vet 1st thing tomorrow. I checked his throat, looking as far as he would let me, but he said, "that's enough mom!" That was my 1st thought, an object caught in his lil, but big, throat. I don't believe so because of the constant spells of quick and short sneezes, more like little wet snits (real word?). He shakes his ears?

Off to the vet you must go. Sounds like something is stuck up in his nose or throat. The other thing is this could be start of a real sickness and he has to be checked out.

Interesting...What breed, how old is it? does it do all three at once? gag after eating or all the time? any discharge from the nose? Vomiting or regurgitating at all? Can you see anything in its ears? What does it's skin look like? anything visible in the mouth that shouldn't be there? Up to date on all of it's vaccinations? There's a lot of things that could be wrong with your dog....but without more information I'm afraid none of us are going to be much help!

It might be kind of a cold with an ear infection. When my dog gagged, it actually turned out to be bronchitis. She was gagging on her lung secretions. Cured easily with antibiotics.
Hope the vet visit goes well!

I dont know if this is the cause or not but someone could have tapped your dog on the end of the nose or rubbed the nose abd caused this. Was any one else around and did u have your back turned when it happened?

Allergies. He may even have an ear infection. my dog kept shaking his head when he had one. Some breeds are very apt to get allergies and is very uncomfortable for them. My dog is on antihistamines in the summertime and they are pretty inexpensive. so, get your dog to the vet and let him enjoy the rest of the dog days of summer in comfort.

I had a beagle that did that.
(They are 'sniffer' dogs - always have their nose to the ground.)

I think he got something like a piece of lawn grass, weed or leaf in his nose and was trying to expel it.

Never quite learned his lesson. He was a great dog, but sadly he is gone.

You are on the right track when it comes to taking him to the vet. Dogs can have allergies. Good luck!
