Christ loved the Church so much that he gave himself completely to and for her. Husbands are called to love their wives in the same way. To give yourself completely to your spouse means to hold nothing back. Christ held back nothing; giving himself completely so that the Church may be made holy. When spouses come together in sexual union, they need to give themselves completely to one another. This is one reason why the Catholic Church condemns artificial contraception; it is holding back your fertility. It prevents you from giving yourself completely to your spouse. It also distorts the family's image as it is made in the image of God. The husband and wife giving of themselves completely become one, and their love begets another in a true image of the Trinity. But when the couple contracepts, it distorts that image.

There is a whole theology about this subject that is very beautiful. Read 'Theology of the Body for Beginners' by Christopher West.

Although I haven't heard this at any pulpits (i have done quite a bit of "church shopping", the marriage union between a husband and a wife, is sacred. Check out Hebrews 13:4. Although it is a good thing, at least for me it is, to start learning the entire Bible, though I kinda freaked at some of the Old Testimont, so the new was good for me. If we didn't have bad, then how would we know good? gotta go give my son a ride to a downtown festivity. I have much to say about Your Question. God is Good, always learning is great.

Give me an idea of where those pulpits are, because I have never been near one. The church considers it a sacred part of a marriage between a husband and wife, of that I know =)

I don't what pulpits you've been hanging around, but I've never heard a preacher say, "go screw someone for Christ's love of the church."

Well, it's not really described quite like that. The union of a husband and wife and the way they are meant to be joined together in love is symbolic of Christ's relationship to the church. Making themselves vulnerable, open, unselfishly loving one another and the bond shared between the two.
There are spiritual principles throughout our world that God has established in everyday life to help people understand our relationship to God and to understand who He is.

I feel sex acts with my partner are an act of love. So Christ's acts ( things he did when here) were an act of love, too.

I've read that Christ is the bridegroom and the church is the bride.

Read Song of Songs (sometimes called Song of Solomon)

It is talking about Israel/The Church/Christians

They aren't the same at all. Period. Christ love for the Church was such that he laid down his life for her, his Bride. Men are exorted to respond to their wives in such a way and PROTECT THEM. This is all.
