depends. if you eat everything that's in front of you, gastric bypass is probably the answer, it forces you to eat less. If you can control your eating rate then stomach banding.

You don't say your weight or what you have done to try and lose weight.

If you have not explored all the options, then you should do it before you even look at the surgery. Anesthesia stays in adipose tissue (fat) and can cause problems after surgery because it will be more difficult to come out of the anesthesia and of course the longer you are under anesthesia the higher your probability of problems from the actual surgical procedure.

You also realize that many people have problems with mal-nutrition because instead of eating healthy food they eat junk and then have other medical problems. And you can gain the weight back. I know someone who started eating her 2 tablespoons of food (or whatever it was) then she made it 2 1/2, then 3, and she kept pushing it. ANd then the band broke and she had to have another surgery. She gained back most of her weight anyhow.

I suggest that you see a doctor soon so that he can refer you to a hospital specialist surgeons.
Only when exercise and dieting fail, then the hospital may consider you for these operations.
Do you have any other ailments, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions?
These are questions the doctor will ask you.
You have to watch a very strict diet and swim. Swimming may be one of the best form of exercise for obese people.

One person just died of stomach banding operation in my country due to complications. So, operations do have their risks.

You need extensive counselling in my country to go for such operations. The criteria is very stringent.

Gastric Bypass Surgery/gastrectomy/lapband (all types of weight loss surgery) is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your lobesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her obesity surgery in India throught the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 55lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

No matter what you decide, make sure you have a physician's full disclosure on both procedures (outcomes, risks, side effects, etc....).....

In regards to your diet - are you able to diet first? If you are able to gain more mobility once dieting, are you able to do light exercises first?

Be as strong as possible mentally and physically before you undergo major surgery. Make sure you also have good supports in place - family, friends, homecare, etc. post operatively.

God Bless and good luck with your choice!

OPERATIONS CAN BE SUCCSESSFUL BUT THERE IS ALSO A CHANCE THAT THEY CAN MESS UP! THE BEST WAY IS TO EXCERCISE FIND SOMETHING YOU LIKE TO DO SWIM,SPORTS, OR BIKING IF ITS SOMETHING YOU LIKE TO DO THEN YOU WILL DO IT ALL THE TIME WHILE HAVING FUN AND LOSING WEIGH. ALSO YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHANGE YOUR EATING DIETS AND NEVER EAT RIGHT BEFORE YOU GO TO SLEEP. EAT ONLY TO LIVE!!!...NOT TO GET FULL! GOOD LUCK YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!!!!.....IF!!!!! YOU ARE DETERMINED ENOUGH!!
