Your cat is trying to let you know that he's THE BOSS; don't let him sit on the table and eat with you...give him his little bowl and put a few table scrapes in with his cat food....

It means your cat loves you and wants your attention. Cats share food with family, so this cat considers you one of his family. It is also a way of expressing dominance. Cats have a pecking order in the family; I would guess he's an alpha male who wants to show you who's boss. Eating from your plate is his way of expressing dominance over you.

My first two kittens did this and I had to use a spray bottle to have a meal in peace!
It can be a dominance thing. I think the family animals need to know that you eat first and they get their dinner after. You can do it the other way round if you like.
They should not be allowed to interrupt your meal.

oh, he is trying to do his own thing. Keep him off the table and don't fee him scraps from the table. My cat does that and I usually let him smell something spicy or veggies from my plate. He then usually loses interest and walks off.
