If you feel comfortable handling a dog, bring it in... perhaps it may have a collar with ID tag (you can call its owner), a tattoo (which may be from a vet, breeder or owner) or a microchip (you will likely not be able to tell). Be careful, however, if you have a cat, dog or other pet - you never know with a strange dog, it might choose to chase something....

Perhaps someone in the neighbourhood is looking for their dog...again, if you feel comfortable and are able to handle the animal for a few days, you might consider putting up "found" posters or putting an ad in your local paper. most papers offer free ads to people who have found objects.

Again, if you feel comfortable, you can take the animal to your nearest vet, Humane Society, Shelter or SPCA and they will be able to assist you. You can also call those places for information and assistance - they will be happy to help you.

You can fashion a makeshift leash out of a belt (simply loop it through the buckle), a piece of rope or even a purse strap, in a pinch.

You might offer it some water, but you might wait with the food - you (or the Animal Control Officer/Police Officer) won't want to have to clean up after a car-sick dog!

If you are not comfortable handling a dog - call your local animal control or Police - they will dispatch someone to come and gather the animal for you, and try to find identification, see if there is a lost report and contact an owner.

I know that it will be a tremendous help to the ACO/Police Officer who comes to get the dog if you can lure it into your garage/backyard, porch or somehow confine the dog. This does a couple of things - they won't have to chase it all over your neighbourhood, the dog will be safely out of traffic and other harm's way.

Is it friendly?
If it is, I wouldn't let it in your house because it could be infected with fleas and ticks. Make it a bed on your porch and give it a little food and water. Call the humane society, ASPCA, or animal control and let them take it from there. Remember, don't endanger yourself. If you don't feel comfortable, don't do it. Just call one of those places I listed. I know the humane society will hold it for a while to see if it's owners will come to get it. Not sure if the other 2 will do that.
Hoped I helped you some!

call animal control unless you see signs around your neighborhood or ads in the papper that match the dog's description. You can also post found dog signs and keep it untill someone claims it. If no one claims it you can then take it to animal control or find a home for it yourself if you don't want it.

Only do this if you are comfortable with dogs.

Sound's like the Dog is wanting someone to care for him/ her, & looking for somebody to love. Feed the poor Dog, & if possible keep the Dog,& take it to the Vet. for a check up, if you can. Maybe the Dog has been lost for a long time, & need's someone to love it.

I suggest that you wrap him in a towel and bring him to a vet.If he doesn't want o let you near him,you should call the ASPCA.They'll take care of everything, and you'll feel good to help a poor dog.
P.S I hope this helps.

Call animal control to pick him up. They will take him to the vet for observation to make sure he is all right.

ASPCA GO!
Give it food and get a makeshift collar around its neck, it will make it easier for them.
