Sing, my dear. The best lung excersice for you is to sing your heart out. Singing builds up your lungs, and can help people with lung cancer, asthma, and breathing problems. A common cure/treatment for asthma for young children is to put them into singing lessons or dance class.
Another very good way to build up your lungs is by playing an oral instrument. I recommend the trumpet or trombone.
My friend just reminded me of a third way, and probably the best way, to build up your lung capacity and strength. Swim! Swimming (both underwater and above) can help you learn proper breathing techniques, procedures, and can strengthen your lungs profusely.
Following any of these three can help you, but there are always the little things. Stay away from smokers. Even a few minutes in a smokey room can mess you up for days, especially if you already have breathing problems. Secondly, on days that the local weather isn't at its best, be cautioned. On days that the ozone is yellow, orange, or red, try to stay indoors. If you don't know about these days, simply checking the weather channel in the morning can help you out a lot.
Good luck, and here's to a healthy set of lungs soon!

You can increase your lung capacity by exercising-cardio exercise. Try jogging or running 3 to 4 times a week to start with, for 25-30 minutes. It's preferable to do this on a stationary bike or a glider machine in a gym, because running or jogging on hard surfaces can make your back sore from the shock of the feet hitting hard surfaces. (I know this from experience.) If you do use a hard surface, try to wear excellent running shoes with good support and cushion. You can increase your time, distance, or intensity (i.e. running instead of jogging) as you start to get used it and the breathing gets easier and muscles get stronger. You could also try an aerobics class. Step aerobics or a cardio-dance type classes are fun and great for your lungs.
